Prime Rib steak
« on: August 31, 2016, 06:30:20 PM »
I found out a couple of days ago that I'll be labouring on Labour Day because of a scheduling change at work so today's my Friday night. At the store on the way home, I decided screw this, it's been an awful week, I'm buying a steak and the prices on prime rib steaks were a lot more reasonable than they have been all summer long so I treated myself:

Seasoned with salt, freshly ground pepper, and garlic:

After a rest while I got the grill ready:

Searing over hot coals:

Finished product resting while some veggies are finishing up:

Time to enjoy!

Oh it was good!  Actually, that was the first time I've used the charcoal baskets for cooking on the grill. I'd only used them with the rotisserie until I made that steak, and I've never had a sear on a steak like that before.  I'll definitely have to do that again.

As for the bone, I froze it.  I'm going to save up some bones (thinking about smoking beef ribs at some point soon) and see if I can make beef stock from scratch.
