Ash sweeper for 1999 EE performer help.
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:13:26 AM »
Hello all. I'm new here but, i would like some help if possible. I have a 1999 performer (EE). The ash sweeper needs replacing. I know weber does not make this part any longer due to design change. Weber is telling me i need to get a new bowl for new ash sweep/design.??? Does any one have an alternative fix & or a new sweeper part that fits 1999 EE. Thank you all for your help in advance. Grill on!  :)

This should work for you.  I riveted my catcher into place, but a others have used hose clamps.

Yep, the pop rivet method looks the best because it's hidden. As someone who used automotive hose clamps, I can report they hold the ash bucket ring rock-solid. My biggest issue was not buying large enough hose clamps, making bending them around more difficult. I *think* you want the 1 1/2" size there. More?

Another thing you can do is drill holes into the leg sockets and just screw the ash ring on, after flattening its tabs. You have options! :)
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

First off, you are going to need a can of Zep BS Repellant for the Weber CS person selling you that line of crap!

Just get the latest and greatest set of ash sweeps and do this quick simple and cheap mod.

Get some sheet metal and cut some tabs that you will use to fit into the leg sockets

secure them onto the ash can assembly with 1/8" pop rivets (or machine screws/nuts-bolts etc.)

Assemble the ash sweeps and simply press the tabs into the leg sockets like the new style assemblies.

The pop rivets are hidden out of sight behind the leg sockets so unless you plan on cooking on it rather than entering it in a show and shine nobody but us hacks will know!

I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!

Holy crap.  This works well and is super easy.  This is the only way forward for the old ash rings.

I was able to attach a new ash catcher to my 97' performer by using a dremmel to extend the notch in one of the legs. It seems that 2 of the notches line up almost perfectly however the 3rd notch is offset a bit. After a few minutes of grinding I had my new ash catcher installed and it was very simple.
Looking for green, red, blue mbh...  Acocado, yellow, or lime.

I just did this mod to what must be an older kettle.  Check it out, the slots on the back of the leg sockets aren't all facing in like the above pics show.

Also, I decided that I didn't want the ash ring tight to the bowl, but would rather a little gap.  I spaced it off the kettle with some skewers.

It turned out grate.  It is spaced nicely off of the kettle and is on very solid.  I used a stainless tywrap to secure one of the leg sockets that didn't line up.  The other, I was able to twist the strip of metal to work.

I think OP is looking for ash sweep...

Get the newer model ash sweep and simply file down the hole in the blade bracket to accomodate your ash catcher bar....

Need a metal file for this
