Adventures in Pancakes and Bacon
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:08:40 PM »
Girl Grinner said the other day she wanted to grill bacon.

Now, I ask you ... am I raising her right, or WHAT?

Picked up a package of center-cut bacon and a small package of pancake mix w/ chocolate chips. Simple stuff. Well, it is if you're familiar with that and I am not.

Put the girl in charge of the batter and that's done.

First up was the bacon. I chose two fajita pans because it had been awhile since they'd been used and could benefit from some grease, you know? Also, the bacon strips were short so it was a good fit. Did a few at a time.

First mistake, not pre-greasing the pans? Also, the bacon was thin. Got "all tore up quick." Out of the 8 or so strips we cooked, I think 2 survived intact.

Grilled bacon bits FTW!  ::)

Bacon grease was poured off and saved for the pancakes, heh.

The first pancakes ... no known pictures exist. Let's just say they took out the pan and the pan had to go take a timeout. So, 2nd screwup. This is actually a vast improvement:

Goofy girl at the helm. I think I was gasping for coffee still.

Hey, looks more like a pancake now. This is what we were reduced to: cooking them one. At. A. Time.

You get the idea.

Doesn't look like much but they tasted yummy.

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Can't beat breakfast with your girl! And an adventure just means you learned something new, right?

Not a thing wrong with a cook like that when you have good company!

First batch of pancakes always comes out bad.  Even the worst bacon is still good.  We might have to have a breakfast on the kettle contest.
