Salmon and Grilled Pears
« on: May 11, 2015, 07:23:27 AM »
Marinated in Huli Huli sauce,  I planked the fillet and quick seared the steaks before finishing on the plank .

For the pears , I mixed 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon cinnamon to make a drizzle I brushed with coconut oil and grilled the pears flesh side down for about 15 minutes , drizzled and topped with walnuts

What is huli huli sauce? (hooli hooli sauce if you're a silicon valley fan)

Also, the grills pears sound out of this world.

Killer crust on the fish......I'd usually not think to char quite like that, but it looks really good !!!

the pears are pure icing on the cake !!!!!

The marinade does burn slightly , but it's really tasty that way .

I've been making my own for some time:

2 cups pineapple juice
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup catsup
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
4 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
2 tbs fresh grated ginger
2 tsp chili garlic sauce
Fresh lime juice doesn't hurt

Bring to a boil, then simmer until reduced to about a cup. Make a double batch, you won't regret it!

Don't know if you have Cost Plus / World Market places near, but they usually have it & lots of other interesting like items....

http://www.worldmarket.com/product/hawaiis-famous-huli-huli-bbq-sauce.do

An international type market might.....the Chinese / Korean giant plaza market I go to has it, but they have stuff from all over the world........not sure it would be in just any regular market, but I've seen it in some regular stores in the past....it's, I believe, a Hawaiian thing.......

Here's a scratch make-up......

@ chuck s your welcome and thank you . You can also do a reverse sear after you take it off the plank to add the grill marks .

@SixZeroFour  good idea for the pears , we were talking about grilling some strawberries , cut in half and then finish with something , Nutella would rock for that too .
Thank you @ WNC it gets busted out a couple times a year on special occasions , Mother's Day was one of those :)
