@jcnaz with the current setup on the 18.5 lid bale is it pretty tight?  On my JJ and my SJG I have to pull up slightly to clip the bale onto the handle.

Should I set the hole lower than what you are showing?  Thanks so much for the info!

When I was done drilling  on my modded 18.5, my lid lock was about 1/3 of an inch too loose. I was able to reshape the steel enough to get a nice, tight fit. Now that I have measured an actual Outrider (Smokey Joe Platinum) I would drill the holes a bit lower on the bowl.

Thanks @jcnaz that's exactly what I wanted to know.  I'm waiting for the wooden locking handle from Brian to finalize the fit.  It's difficult to test fit just the bale at all, but especially without the handle.

FWIW, I ordered the lid bale wire (#86824) last Friday, but just got an email from ereplacements that they're on back order and won't ship for 12-18 business days.  Unfortunately it's holding up the rest of my order too, other fun things like a thermo bezel, lid lock support, etc. 
Now I need another project while I wait... [emoji53]

@cwmfour, I drilled holes 3.75" down from the rim and got a perfect fit for the lid lock and bale.
