I sold my 22" WSM about three years ago and have always regretted it.  On the flip side, I DID think it was a bit too big for me, not only because I never needed the extra cooking real estate, but it was just too cumbersome to disassemble and reassemble.  Yes, I had put wheels on it which made it easier to move around, and some other cool mods (in my opinion), but even still, just something about it.  Fast forward to about three weeks ago, where I scored an 18" WSM at my local Town & Country Hardware store, for a price that was too good to pass up.  Like Facebook Marketplace, too good to pass up.  Today I did my first mod, where I put 3" casters on it.  Just like the 22" WSM I had, it's very easy to move around now.  I plan on cooking on it tomorrow.

Looks great, enjoy cooking on that beauty!  I recently acquired an 18" WSM and they are wonderful cookers.

I broke in the WSM yesterday by cooking up some ribs.  I was impressed at how well it maintained temperature.  I think they came out pretty good.  I shared some with my neighbor, but waiting to hear if he liked them or not.  Next mod might be a lid hinge.  I had the unknown bbq hinge on my 22" WSM, so I'm considering that, or the Char-Griller Akorn hinge.  Thoughts?  My concern is that the cover still needs to fit with the hinge.  The cover DID fit on the 22" with the unknown bbq hinge.

Thanks.

The verdict is in.  My neighbor like 'em.  He wants more, lol.  He's doesn't know much about Webers, as he's a recteq guy and has a big setup built onto a concrete pad in his yard.  He said that he was so inspired by my ribs, that he ran out and bought some this week to do this weekend.  Maybe I'll get a taste.....

They look grate!

Need to add a wsm to my collection. After all, they take up a relatively small footprint right!?

I'm glad he liked them and no surprise here.  Hard to beat a WSM for ribs and butts... He may try them on the recteq but there's no way they'll be as good.

Thanks for sharing!

The footprint of the 18 inch WSM is surprisingly and pleasantly small in comparison to the 22 inch.  I started Googling the measurements when it gave me this AI overview -

The 18-inch Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, also known as the 47cm model in the UK, measures 104.2cm H x 48.3cm W x 53.4cm D (41" H x 19" W x 21" D) with the lid closed. Its diameter is 47cm (18 inches). The primary and total cooking area is 3103 square centimeters (481 square inches).

Agreed!

Did you try the unknown bbq hinge with the cover that the 18" WSM comes with?

I got a great deal on an old 18" the other day. I hadn't started thinking about mods yet, but I definitely will have to add casters.
