I've got an '02 Platinum, so I was out of the picture anyway, but when I saw this:

Maybe they just don't understand how to cook on Weber . . .

Hi MagnoliaTom - I'm Max, creator of the Woolly Bully. Glad you found the site, happy to answer any questions you may have. I'll be respectful of the fact that this is a Weber forum, not a Woolly Bully forum!

Big Dawg - good catch, indirect heat is certainly possible and that sentence is poorly worded. I'll think about a re-wording that emphasizes even cooking but doesn't make limiting claims about the naked Weber.

I honestly don't don't see anything wrong with design, and the reality is there is heat loss thru the lid.

Might be handy to have in colder northern climates on a low and slow cook?  Would be fun to do a comparison cook on two kettles side by side to measure the differences.

In all our testing it reduces fuel consumption for a long-and-slow cook by about a third, holding temperature constant of course. Agreed on heat loss through the lid. See comparison here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0643/0880/5804/files/infrared-woolly-bully.jpg?v=1732668595

We'd love to get the pricing down! Economics are harsh for small scale production with premium materials. Hopefully if we get some volume!

I think it's a pretty neat idea!
Needed? Absolutely not... but fuel efficiency is $$$

Back in IL I had overnight cooks that would have been less costly with something like this.
In California I'm not sure how much of an effect it would have.

Thank for the notice, Max.  Coincidentally, I did a Pepper Stout Beef last night.  Five hours at 275º followed by 2½ hours at 350º and I only used 2½ small Weber Chimneys.  Of course, I'm in Florida and we had a really nice, warm day yesterday.

With the SnS I've found that I'm very fuel efficient, though I don't doubt that your product would cut my fuel use even more.

Personally, I don't your price is that outlandish.  I've gotten used to Weber accessories sometimes being a little pricey.  My 1st SnS, back when that was their only product, probably cost about that much.  Now that they've way expanded their product line and been able to take advantage of scaling up their business, the price has come down some.

Same with my Grill Grates.  Don't even ask about the Roti kit from Cajun Bandit for my 26er . . .

So, good luck with the Woolly Bully.  It doesn't fit my older kettle, but that's fine, I'm still in the Sunshine State, so it never really gets that cold here.

Thanks Big Dawg, commented on the other post. I'll give that recipe a try.

I don't begrudge people the right to complain about price. For better or worse we're all conditioned by the consumer products in our lives every day that benefit from massive economies of scale, and that's just impossible to match when you're a small-timer trying to get a product off the ground.

Frankly we are not making much money at all on this first round. If we get enough volume for a second order, there are some things we can probably do with sourcing, shipping, etc that will let everybody save a little, and let us earn a little more.

I have the 1st Gen SnS as well (and a more recent one), and I love it. On the advice of others I've been trying snaking a lot recently, but I just find that I get up to temp faster with the SnS, have a lot more control, and get a cleaner smoke taste.

Hopefully I can convince you to try a Woolly Bully if/when we make one for pre-2015 lid layouts!
