Its a one touch, I re-installed the sweepers shortly after this pic was taken. Stu/G did the mod on it.
Ah, I knew that thing looked familiar! I remember asking G about the leg sockets a year ago on tvwbb. That's one of my favorite mods to date.
And so we don't get too of topic here's an old pic of mine coming home. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the back if you squint hard enough. :)

Stay away from my brownies!!! The one in the front is newer and should restore nicely, only problem is a little rust all the way through next to one of the legs. The browny in the back is old, the handle is held on by a bail of wire as there is 2 large holes all the way through the dome. Got beat up one for free ;D and the other one for only $15 ::). Can't wait to put the better one back together with a bucket and all new innards. I just need to fix up the rust on the bowl where the legs join and then I'm golden...that's for another post though.
I wanna see more reds!!!
I've been on the hunt for a color 18" to add to the collection. I'd trade anything you see for a decent 18"
Here is my EO. At the time, it was only my 2nd kettle. Couldn't pass it up, as Redheads are hard to come by up here.
Seller said it was only used once, maybe twice. It showed. Didn't take much to make this look good. ??? ::) ;)
I was also impressed with the color change when it gets heated. Never knew about that. She's my pride and joy. :o :o ;)

Keep the coals away from the bowl, and get a premium cover. No outdoor storage either. Congrats on a find any of us would be bragging about for years!

What are the odds you still have the original legs/wheels/ash pan/etc...
I was driving in Chattanooga today, and saw a billboard for Coca-Cola. It said something about 'summer', and featured a redhead Weber kettle.
Truly, an iconic image.
They have those in Nashville as well I love that billboard!

Yes it is. It says "Schmidts" was made for Landmark Brewery for their grand opening. No longer in business. It is just odd, so it fits into the collection.
I have a Redhead MT (EZ) will have to get some pics of her to post here. The front handle is bent at an angle, not sure if it can be bent back easily. I will hunt through the restoration threads to see if anyone else has tried the same.

Ken a rubber mallet will do wonders on it. Just a few taps and it will straighten out.

This here post is a dual purpose post.
First, it's a pic of my freebie OTS score. My first redhead.
One of the local sheriff's deputies (a friend from high school) scored this for me from a neighbor of his. It was a sad sight. Handles rotted right off, broken wheels, rusty triangle. It looked a helluva lot better from the highway at 55 than it did in person.
Anyway, he got it for me and I felt obligated to resuscitate her.
The handles are some of Brian's maple handles, and he wanted to see how they looked on a redhead. Well, I've always been keen of three blondes on one redhead, so here you go.

Bluesman, I like to think that your gorgeous patio has just been waiting around for a red MT to show up and complete it.
Bravo Bluesman... Boy that has a shine to it !
Finally got all the kettles cleaned up and lined up (95 Performer, 98 Jumbo Joe, 88 One-Touch Plus (with ash can retrofit)).

The two 22s have Brian O'Neal (zavod) handles, which are better than perfect.
Fantastic family Mike! That Performer is really making me realize how badly mine needs to be cleaned. What's next on your list?
Thanks, Marty. I gotta stop collecting now-- I'm all out of room (though I did sneak another one in today on a 'family heirloom exemption'-- more on that later tonight).
I'll still be collecting kettles for others, which is even more fun in some ways.
Gotta add my early 70's Statesman to the group......

Gummi,
I can't quite figure out what you did there... is it an 18? Honestly, it looks like a dwarf! Full sized features, but in a tiny package. lol. I wouldn't mind having one, that's for sure!
It;s an 18 with shorter legs and a smaller triangle.
I think it is very cool, if I wasn't so cheap I would have bought it from Gummi, instead I will be making my own as I am getting an 18 this week.

Nice looking reds. Is that a 26 on the far right?
That is actually a 22.5". It does look bigger in the pic doesn't it ???
Tell me about the 18 on the far left. Have we seen it before?

Was it one of the ones with a fabbed solid triangle or am I thinking of a different one?
You got a thing for red or something, Harris? hehe, the one on the right does look bigger. The only way I figured it was a 22 was the dome top and the 3 triangle wireshelf

That's a nice collection, Harris. That G/A and the offset joe have me salivating.
Even though I know where it ended up, (probably the best hands of all) I'm still bummed the red kettle gasser in DC didn't 1) get into my collection 2) didn't stay with the buyer for more than a few weeks.

All U "Redhead" owners and Ur Kettle pictures are driving my crazy. I cooked on 2 beautiful Forest green 22's for years and years. I joined WKC in late March of this year and now my kettle count is up to nine ... and none of them is "red". I'm soooooo looking for a red kettle >:(

Crimson color has really grown on me lately. Not to long ago, I passed up on a nice crimson performer. I thought it was a brick red at first. I backed out of the deal when found it was indeed a crimson by the seller at the last moment.
I was checking out crimson, green premium kettles at the BBQ store today. They both look great.

My 1999 red head that I'm restoring.. new sweeps
New wheels , swapped the legs from left to right
Because they were loose. Great idea from a forum member. Along
With the donated sweeps ( from another member),and two days with
A razor blade and steel wool ,all I got to do is buy a new top grate and she
Is ready..

@KevinP. What a beautiful redhead! 1984. Handles are hurting a little but you'll be surprised how they can turn out if you decide to sand them down to good wood. I was amazed! Congrats man!

@KevinP. Here's an old thread that may help.
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/what-finish-do-you-use-on-wooden-handles/
If replacing them is more of a route you want to take down the road, @zavid44 makes handles at very reasonable rates.
Good luck with the webertitis...

Darko, I don't disagree with you. I think the prior owner left it outside with no cover and the handles took the worst of the weather beating. Probably will be looking to replace them.

Great pic @kettlebb ! What year is your newest member? I see a small single bottom tab.

From what I've researched she is a red Patent Pending. All small vent tabs. 69' or 70'? She should have steel rubberized wheels and a straight edge ash pan. I will need to order a double rivet walnut handle from Zavod also. Someone set me straight if I'm wrong here.

Nice reds, gang! This thread is over 4 years old and the misspelled "Appretiation" still burns my eyeballs.
I just picked up this red 1991 with the vintage sidekick table. I saw in their garage an old but very usable chimney and vintage Weber shish kabob set which the seller agreed to include. Couple of dings but looking forward to a weekend of a red kettle restoration. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170714/97a8f327f3c5ecb7763973c4b44bdc9c.jpg)

I bought this SSP from an older gentleman here in Bakersfield named Woody. He had quite a few kettles, and was selling a few. He said: "I have four houses, and I like to keep just a few kettles at each house." But he sold me the SSP and a brownie. He was aware of WKC, I don't think he was a member. Good guy.
And the kettle is going away. My daughter's boyfriend bought their first house, and it is going to him. (Trying to auto-generate kettle karma, Jon? It doesn't work that way!) I found out that I was losing a kettle when I was out back lighting a chimney, getting things ready to cook dinner. My wife and daughter came out to inform me that "Joe got the house, and he'll need a barbecue." And "It would be best if the kettle is blue."
That's not happening. I only have one blue kettle, one that I received from SwamInPBR a while back. That blue kettle is not going anywhere. The boyfriend will have some other kettle.
There is a bag of Stubb's in the bin, a chimney underneath, and assorted tools and utensils. The boyfriend just needs to provide the matches. And the food.

Thanks! Wherever I can. Most of Reds are in the backyard. Some in the garage and rest of them in the basement. I have lost a count of how many all together including other colors, gassers, sj and sjg.
Currently, over 10 kettles, 4 performers, and 2 gasser in the backyard for cooking duties. ;D ;D ;D

Hi! So I just bought my first "old" grill! All the ones I currently own are 2015 and up steals I've gotten second hand. I am from Miami and rarely see oldies for sale down here. On a recent trip to Disney I checked offer up as I normally do when on a road trip and found a 1985 red head in Orlando. So on my way home I drove east and picked it up from a fellow WKC member. I am very anxious to give it TLC!! My one question is about the rust spots on the actual bowl, what is he best way to deal with them and keep them from spreading? The wheels, triangle, and leg clean up write ups are awesome! Can't wait to get to work.

Store it indoors. Or, if using it, put some cooking oil on the spots and reapply often?
Rusty grates promote and accelerate rusty grate straps. Banking coals promotes bowl porcelain pockmarks (use charcoal baskets.)
And remove ash after each cook. The leg sockets and sweeps or vents will thank you.

This is my 1984 F code it's been waiting patiently for three years to show me what it's got. This Memorial day was perfect and it came through with flying colors. I tend to name my grills after superheroes and this one was beat up when I got it so Daredevil is a perfect fit.

Can I have that?
Here's is the one I cleaned up. Pretty sure I'm in black kettle country, so this is probably a pretty good find for 15 bucks. The leg sockets are rough, but not rusted through. I lightly sanded the handles and used brown sharpie to fill in the lettering, then lightly sanded again. I might end up sanding them all the way down, cause the old stain looks weird on there. Maybe there is something I could soak them in, to get down to wood without sanding off the recessed logo. Also need to get an ash sweep for it.
If it was yours I would tell you about all the kettle karma you would get lol. Those rangers are the coolest

I told the guy at the estate sale I was thinking about strapping it to the top of my car and he said "Its your life, live it!" Lol
The blanket was to protect the kettle, not the car btw.
I missed out on a really nice one the other day, so I wanted this one bad.
Needs a couple parts, but it seems to be in decent shape

Finally acquired a redhead from a garage sale after a couple years of looking and losing out on some deals! It came with the condiment rack. It was pretty clean and I cleaned it more and put new grates inside. I stained the handle. Thanks to everyone for all the cleaning tips over the years. From the age guides, this is a 1973/1974 model. Here it is along with my 3 other Webers (2005 Genesis C, 2014 Performer deluxe, and early 2000s Go Anywhere —found new on OfferUp).
