I was curious how far people would be willing to drive for the grill they wanted, or how far they have driven? I just got back from a trip from Omaha, NE to St.Louis, MO for my ranch kettle. Pretty long drive (439 miles one way) for a grill. However I've wanted one for a while and they never come up around here and the only way to get one it seems is to order one. So I took the drive to go and pick it up and could not be happier. Kind of a silly question but just curious if I am the only one who drive that far. I'm was at about 950 miles round trip. So how far have you went?

There it is loaded up ready for drive home, and then when I got it home.

That was maybe worth the drive, I guess it would depend on what it was......but some things would be worth driving for..
If it fits in the budget and you've got the time, then why not? Especially for something rare.

Nice RK. That's the one with the extra lid and charcoal grate ? If I didn't already have an RK, I would have made the trip down from Louisville depending on what kind of price I could have negotiated on it.
How far would I drive for a grill ? I'd have to place a $ value on the grill, start with the purchase price and then calculate in the associated travel costs. If I have time on my hands, and if the numbers work out, I'd drive quite some ways for the right grill.
What kind of tree you got in your yard. I know, I know, I'm sorry, I just love massive trees.
Yes, that is the one the guy had with extra lid and charcoal great. Was in great shape like he said and he even held it for me until I could make it down.
hey congrats! nice ranch right there.
If I had the day off anywhere in New England for the right one.
I had some time off last week and was trying to coerce a couple of my buddies to road trip it from Gloucester MA to Rhode Island for a Green Performer but they had to work.
As far as I would be willing or more importantly, able to go to get something. Congratulations on the Ranch,
@cumminfourya ! As you well know, not much comes up around our neck of the woods. Save for the occasional two tone red 22 OT kettles or Performers once in a blue moon.
For my holy grail of grills I would drive a lot farther than normal.
Nice looking Ranch, i love mine, enjoy!
I am going to get a blue weber performer, thanks to the wkc craigslist it will be 150 miles round trip.
It would depend on the Kettle. As it stands, I'd be willing to do a 100mile round trip.
@cumminfourya So far, I driven 380mi (one way) to pickup a '96 Blue MT in Oak Harbor. What a great adventure, I'd do it again in a heartbeat :) SJ
Farthest I've driven yet was approx. 480 round trip for my mid 60's thumbscrew Coppertone Mist and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I LOVE a good road trip especially when there's a Weber at the other end.
The farthest I have driven to date is about 100 miles one way to score a C code 18.5" WSM. I also drove about 90 miles one way to score an E code 14.5" WSM.
Congrats on the ranch. Any trip is worth that kind of reward.
I love to be on the road actually, so the drive never really bothers me. I used to drive to five hours to Vegas for work regularly. Farthest I've gone so far was 2 hrs down to Tucson for my first Weber kettle, a black SS Performer.
Nice RK!!! Doesn't it get expensive having to feed it SJs???
Thanks everybody. My first cook is gonna be end of May for a graduation party. I can't wait!!!
Thanks guys!!!

Speaking from recent experience, I'd do one or two smaller practice cooks on it to get used to how it works. Even just dinner for 2 or 3.
I recently drove 2 hours each way for an excellent condition Performer, nothing exotic but just what I was looking for.
Last month I drove from CT to Indianapolis to buy a grill outside Akron. :o
I always like to check all locations between where I'm at and where I'm going when taking a trip, that way I can stop on the way.
My two redheads were about two hours from me, but an hour from my in laws. Planned a trip to the in laws and picked up some kettles on the way.
For a something really rare...I'm not sure there is a limit...

Please tell me that there is some easy way to do this!! Something other than cross referencing CL against a map to try and figure things out.

Ha, Ditto this ^^
Except I don't know if that trip time counts when you're in TX (isn't it like 2 hrs+ between most cities)
For me there are a lot of factors involved. But for something I really wanted and could not get it elsewhere, I would travel pretty far.
I bought two grills from CL first a performer about 35 miles each way the other a WSM 100 miles each way both where like brand new and great people to do business with.
would do it again in a minute.
Last Saturday morning = just over 200 miles total (all easy highway driving) took approx 4 hours.
Copper performer = worth every inch of that trip
