A great review by @Troy

I have to agree with the conclusions.  I have had a SnS in Bisbee for a couple of months now and have never taken it out.  Perfect for indirect/direct cooking (90% of what I do) with the added benefit of smoking without having to build a snake.  Solid product in my book.

Thanks everyone

I've been pleasantly surprised with the SNS. I'm tempted to do the shortened Touch'n'Go mod now...

I wished they made one of these for a 26" kettle. I know, you can place this 22.5 unit in a 26" kettle, but to me it's not the same. I rarely smoke on a 22" kettle. I do most of my smoking on a 26" kettle.

The Slow 'N Sear has been extensively tested in the 26" and it works great.  For many applications I even prefer cooking with my 26" over my 22" (steaks and burgers come to mind).

That said, we're considering creating one that's a little bigger for the 26", but due to the quantities we'd order these in they'll likely cost well over $100.

I would definitely purchase a SnS for a 26" kettle if it were available, regardless of the cost. I wouldn't even think twice about it. It looks like an excellent, durable product that will easily outlive me. Currently I am using a Smokenator for a 26" kettle because it's the only product being offered for 26" kettles.

@ramsfan our very first customer owns a 26" kettle and had a Smokenator before he got the SnS. After a few weeks of SnS ownership he shipped me his Smokenator and said he didn't want it anymore.  The SnS works great in the 26.

People buy a 26 because of capacity. Real estate needed. Abcbarbeqcue tells us that "the 22 version is enough, it really works good in a 26." Sorry, we bought the 26 for capacity - if we buy an accessory for the 26, we don't want to see it curving away from the walls of the 26 wasting space where there could be a lot more charcoal. Scale it up, take advantage of what we use.

And many of us are just pissy enough to NOT buy the SNS because of this. Yes, it is more trouble to build a snake. But I can burn a snake in my 26 for a lot longer than the SNS can burn. And actually have more grill space. Because most of us are capable of putting on gloves or grabbing a couple of pairs of pliers and rotating the cooking grate after eight or ten hours. Buying the SNS would be to buy convenience, and a cool product, not the ability to do something new.

I don't doubt it is a great product. I know that it is, I recommended it to my sister when she wanted to follow me by buying a Smokenator. ( I bought a Smokenator one week before the SNS was announced. Talk about PO'd ) But give us the product we want. A great 26er version. Not just "Good enough."

Curious what the volume of the charcoal chamber is, particularly compared to the standard weber charcoal basket (is it the same amount of charcoal as two full baskets?)... But I'll take it any way I can get it, infact... ABC if you know the cubic inches, that would be amazing...

The SnS still gives you 8 hours of smoking time and 5 hours of water (steam) off the initial load of fuel (~80 briquettes and 1 quart of water) in a 26" kettle.  We're working on a larger SnS for folks that want a larger sear zone, but it will be expensive as we won't be able to order them in the same quantities as we order the standard SnS.  If I order 200 units from the manufacturer the tool up costs cause the per unit price to be twice what they would be if I'm ordering 2,000.  We have many happy SnS owners that use 26" kettles.  Myself included.

I get it, you want a custom product for your 26" kettle, but it already is a custom product.  The curve of the charcoal basket, the angles, the V-Shape of the water reservoir, are all designed to make the water and charcoal work in harmony to give you low and slow heat/steam output for a long period of time or a high temp sear zone when you give the SnS some air for a few minutes.

I don't know how long your snakes work in a 26", but I bet it takes you longer than a minute to refuel.  The SnS can be refueled easily in a minute, 30 seconds if you're hustling.  Try this... Go to the SnS review page at AmazingRibs.com and pose the question "Hey 26" kettle owners, how does the SnS work in your kettle?"   Or just peruse the comments.  There are several photos buried in there from 26" owners.

MnP I don't have that readily available.  What I can tell you is it's designed to hold a Weber Chimney full (~80) briquettes and three chunks of wood.

I would think that most 26 owners are used to the toys for the 26er being more expensive and would be willing to pay more.  I understand from one of your other posts, the cost of retooling to create a SNS for a 26 is quite high, especially for a product that will sell in much lower number.  I'm thinking this is a matter of time telling how much demand there really is for a SNS specifically for the 26er.  I myself use my 26er mainly for smoking and have no problems using the snake method.  Most of my faster direct/indirect cooks are done on my 22's in which case I can see the need for the SNS, as well as the times that I need to use my 22's for smoking.  So while I see people with 26er's wanting a SNS just for that sized grill, I'm not sure if it would be as much of a game changer as it is for the 22's since space isn't as much of an issue.  If you are smoking on a 26er and running out of room chances are you need to upgrade to a WSM anyway.

I think @ABCbarbecue is right to be reluctant to want to manufacture a version for the 26.  The volume of sales would be so low compared to the 22.  Unlike the smokenator, you can use the SnS in a 26. I had a 26 and put it in there is not a huge loss of "real estate" by putting it in.

I don't have numbers but I would guess that some 80 % of kettles are 22" the fact that it can still be used in a 26 is the icing on the cake.

It certainly doesn't look like there's much wasted space using the current unit on a 26".  Honestly, I would have a hard time justifying paying a lot more for a 26" unit, over the 22".  If it works well on both I would rather have a unit that's versatile enough to work in both.

Thanks for the pics.

lol. Its POURING outside so I'm not doing much. Looked at your website and made a couple guesses and drew the rough shape up and came up with 340ci... good job me, I'll take being off by 3%.
Basket is something like 114ci so like 3 baskets.

Part simply curiosity out of how big it is, part because I often just cook for myself and typically just fill up a single basket of charcoal. On my Jumbo Joe a full basket touched the cooking grate which was nice. Was curious how much more coal it would take to fill the thing up to the brim. Not a huge issue since I usually end up shutting it all down at the end and re-using the left over coal (that's why I say mostly out of curiosity).

@MeatAndPotatos - You could probably trace the coal section of the SNS and have a metal plate cut out with a little handle welded onto it so you could snuff it out really quick.

For what its worth, when I did the side-by-side chicken cook I only used a single baskets worth of coals (on both grills).
The grill with banked coals (no basket) wasn't hot enough to sizzle the chicken.
The grill with the slow'n sear still had enough high heat to sear both chickens.

Although to update my previous thoughts...a coal snuffer would involved taking the grate off which means and extended period of the coals getting tons of air, so maybe it wasn't a practical idea.

I just hose mine down with the dry powder ABC extinguisher every time...
(no I don't... Don't do this. That shit burns your lungs, and probably tastes pretty bad)

Just closing down all the vents works fine, its what I have always done. The small capacity of the baskets IS kinda nice but not a huge deal. Its like what I do with my WSM, shake some of the ash loose then top off and relight and your good. I pretty much only use lump anyways.

The Slow 'N Sear will give you a very hot fire and sear zone with only 1/3 basket of coals.  You don't have to use a whole basket.  When do use a whole basket it's easy to close the vents and re-use the leftover coals another day.

If the shape/size of the SnS potentially lends itself to using a snuffer of some kind, it would be worthwhile to have a simple plate with basic handle of some kind. Not all kettles seal well, even with good vents.

On a standard Weber flip grate, is the SnS coal area larger, smaller or about the same size? Even if the snuffer plate didn't fit 100% of the top area it should still be very effective.

The SnS coal area is a little bit bigger than the flip grate.  We'll put the snuffer plate on our list of possible future accessories.  8)

@MacEggs @MikeRocksTheRed @Nate
@ABCbarbecue

Have any of you pizza experts tried the SnS in conjunction with a Kettle Pizza setup?

It seems to me that the SnS is large enough to hold a full basket of charcoal and provides the protection for the kettle from the high heat.  In essence, I would think the SnS would be a very good fuel holder for high heat pizza cooks and would allow you to use any kettle you want for pizza.

Comments?

Have any of you pizza experts tried the SnS in conjunction with a Kettle Pizza setup?

It seems to me that the SnS is large enough to hold a full basket of charcoal and provides the protection for the kettle from the high heat.  In essence, I would think the SnS would be a very good fuel holder for high heat pizza cooks and would allow you to use any kettle you want for pizza.

Comments?

I don't have a SNS (yet) but would love to be a beta tester for use with the kettle pizza!!!!!!  Although I don't know if the pizza stone would get hot enough with the SNS blocking some of the heat that would need to be thrown in the indirect zone for cooking a pizza.

I think the SnS would do a great job of getting the top of the pizza cooked, and if the bottom doesn't get hot enough just throw some hot coals on the indirect side.  We've had folks make great pizza without a kettle pizza accessory.

Don't have a SnS but in theory it should work great. You'd just need to put some hot coals under the pizza stone. I'll try it out if anyone wants to send one over ;)

The S'n'S looks like a fine product, indeed.  But, I won't require one.

I use this set-up with the KP adaptor.  Works great.
I welded these "fences" to an old, beat-up charcoal grate.

Yeah,  I've done this (without a pizza stone). It works great. And really helps when you're trying to refuel the kettle pizza fast,  you don't have to worry about your wood rolling into the center under the pizza.

I apologize for the late response but I was up in the mountains with no internet connections. But I am super excited about this!! I got the Slow N Sear in the mail and man that is a well-made serious piece of equipment! I was surprised how big it was and cant wait to try it out. Ill be sure to post a report on my cook.

I would also like to thank everyone here for fueling my weber kettle obsession and teaching me so much about them! I don't post much so I think it's time I finally introduce myself. During college my parents gave me a 22 One Touch Silver for my birthday and I used and abused that thing for years cooking for all my buddies. After college, my girlfriend (now wife) would host parties at my house but I needed more grill square footage so I began to look on cragislist for another kettle. Shortly after my search began (I'm in North Florida) I came across the most incredible craigslist kettle ads I have ever seen. I don't remember exactly but there were probably 5 old kettles of various sizes and colors that someone was selling from their deceased Dad's lake house. And for cheap too! I called and of course they were already sold.

At the time, I didn't realize kettles came in other colors and I then began scouring the internet for info on old kettles. This led me to that other site (prior to the formation of WKC) and my obsession began after seeing pictures of all your amazing grills. Ever since I have been on the craigslist search for a vintage kettle. My holy grail is a red head but Ive yet to find one. Nor have I had much luck finding any with the exception of a code EZ 26" Black Flattop. Which I love because those parties my girlfriend used to throw have gotten even bigger now that she is my wife.

Cool story on this score of the 26" Flattop...I saw the ad for grill in Orlando (5 hours from me) and sent it to my wife saying if I can figure out how to get this grill I am going to get it (Well I was actually asking for permission 8)). Email seller, call buddy who lives close to grill. Seller eventually gets back to me and says has someone that wants it but if they don't, he will contact me first. Turns out my wife knew my dad was going to Orlando that week for work (But I didn't know this bit of info). Well she coordinated with seller and my dad to get the grill and give it to me for my birthday which was a couple weeks later.

Here she is when I first got her home.

So anyway, like i said we were in the mountains this weekend with some friends. In pictures of the cabin, I saw a 22" kettle and had planned one night to cook tri tip. When I get there this is all I found >:(

But it actually work out great and here are pics of the cook I took for yall. I do a reverse sear with adam perry lang baste and board dressing. Ill be sure to give this a test using the Slow N Sear @ABCbarbecue and do another post with my results.

You as well @AZRaptor.  Glad to hear you got your SnS so quickly. We almost always beat Amazon's ship estimate. They have too much fluff built into the dates they come up with. We ship next business day from Kentucky using FedEx ground which reaches most of the U.S. in three days or less.

Make sure you follow the instructions on the website.  I didn't on my first smoke and my temps ran way too hot and burned through a lot of coal.  After @ABCbarbecue told me to follow the instructions on the next cook it went a whole lot better.  I love my SNS and use it all of the time!!!!!

^This!  Folks that are used to smoking with the snake method, banked coals, smokenator, and so forth consistently overshoot temps on their first cook.  The Slow 'N Sear makes the kettle more efficient and you'll need tighter vent settings than you're used to.  Be sure and read all of our instructions on our website!
