Date night at Chez Craig's
« on: October 19, 2013, 06:42:04 AM »
Kids at grandparents for the night last night. Rather than go out for dinner, my Wife wanted me to do a Surf 'N Turf.  So She picked out top siroin steaks and scallops with asparagus. This is my first time doing scallops. I used the skewer setup for the scallops, 3 minutes on each side. Not rubbery or overcooked. I was nervous at first, but they turned out good. Sorry, no plated pics, the phone was being used for background music at the time. My photos are not great. I need to just invest in a real camera.

The '79'er heating up.....

Asparagus on for about 25 minutes, then threw on the steaks...

4 minutes on each side, seared to medium rare...... We're Aristocrats....  8)  (see Goodfellas)

Scallops going on. Seasoned in Weber Boston Bay seasoning (Thank You, Shaun!)  I liked the skewer set up. If anyone has any other recommendations please feel free to share your techniques.

Again, no plated pics, but the meal was a success. Most importantly, my Wife enjoyed it.

Such a grate combo of food, kettle and accessories.  You have me thinking that I do in fact need the kabob set.  Sheesh.  Get it?  Sheesh Kabob?  Wah wah wah…...

I only get to imagine the plate-up ... I'm sure it looked and tasted awesome!

I am thinking I need a sear grate ... might need to put that on my Christmas wish-list.  :D ;)

Great cook up Craig! I made a really cool sweet lemon glazed scallop dish a few years back. I would have to remake it to get the process down but if anyone is interested let me know.

Thanks to this thread, I did Monday night's asparagus in a little foil pan on top of the warming rack, and it was awesome.  Just a little olive oil, salt, lemon zest/juice, and thyme.  Amazing.

Thanks, Craig!

Nice job Craig.  The steaks looked really good.  Nice on the asparagus too.  How long did you leave the scallops on?

Thanks Jeff! I did them 3 minutes on each side. Not at all rubbery or over cooked.
