Iphone Journal app
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:45:57 AM »
One of the responses to my rib post was to keep a journal of everything that I do when BBQing. I thought about a paper journal, then looked at the hi-tech piece of hardware beside me and thought.....pictures, text, voice recorder, internet....

Anyway, my search of the app store did not yield as many options as I thought it would. Anybody using their smart phone to keep a cooking journal with pics, recipes, and cooking methods?

Evernote would probably be a good app to use. You can save recipes, pictures, videos, notes in there in different sections. Plus, you can access it from the computer.

I'm using the notes app built into ios for my brisket cook today. It's not perfect but easy to use.

On Android there's an app called The Pit Pal, that works really well for this sort of thing.  I would imagine they'd have an iOS version as well.

I downloaded "Day One" a journal app for IOS during the App Store anniversary free giveaway, it's very slick. Don't know if it's worth paying for with other available free options out there.

I tried doing the rib cook in Evernote. It was a little frustrating trying to add the pictures and text. Then I have no idea how to post it here.

 Honey Orange BBQ Chicken

Recipe courtesy The Neelys

Prep Time:20 min
Inactive Prep Time:1 hr 0 min
Cook Time:35 min

Level:Easy

Serves:4 servings

Ingredients

Marinade:

1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup hot sauce
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
1 (4 pound chicken) cut into 10 pieces, patted dry with paper towels

Glaze:

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange Juice
1/4 cup Neely's BBQ sauce
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon allspice

Directions

Mix the orange juice, olive oil, hot sauce, mustard, and orange zest together in a large bowl. Add the chicken and toss to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and let marinate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight in the refrigerator.

Prepare the grill to medium direct heat. Let chicken come to room temperature before grilling.

Drain the chicken from the marinade and pat dry. Grill on each side for 5 minutes, then turn the heat to medium-low and cover the lid of the grill. Continue cooking the chicken until it's cooked through, about 25 minutes more.

While the chicken is grilling, melt the butter in a small saucepan on the grill. Whisk in the honey, orange juice, BBQ sauce, zest, mustard and allspice. Reserve some of the glaze in a small ramekin for serving.

Brush the chicken pieces with glaze, then flip the chicken, glaze side down, and cook for 2 minutes. Brush second side of the chicken with glaze and flip again. Continue cooking for 3 more minutes. Remove the chicken from grill to a platter and serve with reserved glaze.

Left click & HOLD & scroll over the entire area you want.....then right click, select "Copy".......bring to posting box here & "Paste".........

The piece above included a photo.....that won't come thru on a clipboard "Copy", but just add those in the spaces it leaves in the text........

I blog all of my significant cooks. I have a template that includes the sections I want to record and start each entry with that. Were I to do it on my phone, I suppose I'd look for a blogging app.

I am using it on an IPhone. No luck right clicking or the normal copy technique. I just need to play around some more
