I started to clean up my yellow 18 yesterday
I have been in two minds whether to use the original daisy wheels or use some new ones
The 18 was missing a vent when I received it and although a few members offered to send me an old one I decided to replace with new
One call to Weber CS and a couple days later 12 new dampers turned up on my doorstep 8)
Here's a couple of pics , what do ya think??
Before-

After-

Some of Brian's best work

Now for the wheels, there in pretty good condition and I've ordered some white walls from Brian but one of the treads has come off the wheel and I'm after some advice on the best way to fix it
When the tread is placed around the the wheel there's still a 1/2 inch gap in the tread do I just live with it or is there some other way of fixing it ? What's the best way to reattach the tread?
Here's a pic -

I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

You might want to start with attaching the tread, for about an inch with epoxy. Then use a heat gune to gently pull it around another few inches and attach with epoxy. Continue until it is flush on the ends.

Good start....that lid looks like new.  What is the part number for those dampers?  I only thought they sold the newer style (non small tab).

Those new dampers are sweet! Did you do Duke's snip & shape method? Those look authentic!

Hogsy

Ding!!Ding!! We Have a Winner!!
Yep there just standard dampers that needed a bit of a snip
Here's what I used-

The scissors are out of a First Aid Kit, could of used snips but the scissors work fine
I also used a file for some fine tuning
Here it is compared to the original

Shame about the date code, but what are ya gonna do

Excellent work so far.  Its cleaning up very nice.  Nice touch on the dampers!
Kettle collector AND cooker!

Hogsy, is there going to be a problem and do we care about the little stopper tabs being reversed?  I have never notced this before and not sure how it will matter in practice.

Hogsy

Good call G$
Because there reversed the tab doesn't slot into the tear drop hole when in the closed position
It doesn't even slot in in the open position

Which leaves a slight opening when closed

I guess the only problem is it might not shut down

Yeah, that is what I thought, closing down mught be an issue, but only for coal misers like me.  No problems for the "devil may care" guys like Zavod...  he thinks charcoal grows on trees!

Question, is the new mounting hardware from Weber, or did you pick it up atr the HW store?
