Grilling frozen pizzas

After burning a frozen pizza on my Jumbo the other day, I made it my mission to figure out this frozen pizza thing.
It's a beautiful day outside here in Missouri; after some morning showers it cleared up nicely. So I figured I'd work on it.
The pizza stone didn't keep the bottom from burning, so I ditched it.
Spreading out the lump charcoal extinguished the coals, so lump was out.
I used one small chimney of Cowboy briquets, then spread them out like a sundial with no coals in the middle.
Got the grill up to 425F no problem, put the pizza on foil and let it go.
It took a lot longer than the 15 minutes recommended, but it came out great, dough rose fine and no burnt crust.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Looks like it worked well for a cheese pizza - basically just needing to melt the cheese.  What about a loaded down with toppings pizza?  Do you think that method is hot enough on top to cook the toppings?  I love your pictures BTW.  Nice looking grilling area.

Love the pics. That's a nice view. I'm going to be tackling pizza soon. The kids are somewhat plain. They like pepperoni. The wife and I like all the topping. Thanks for the inspiration,

This reminds me of my younger days baking pizza on top of a Kerosun kerosene heater. The top of the protective wire cage was flat and the instructions said don't cook on top. Well I would have never thought of it if I hadn't read that. I made pizza, stews and many a fine pot of spaghetti.lol

I do Stouffers French Bread pizzas on my 18s.  Perfect for two with one basket and a mini chimney of coal.

Always looking for excuses to cook on a kettle!

I've been comparing the Jumbo to the Kamado Joe Jr. for a few cooks now, and I have to say, I like the Jumbo much better. I wasn't expecting that. Part of the reason is that the Jr imparts a bitter taste in the food that tastes like chemicals. Not a fan.

This sounds like an awesome idea!  Time to break out an oldie red head 18" and try this.....

Hey Matt!
I almost pulled the trigger last weekend for that oven.
Maybe you can share your experience when you get into it.
Thanks!

Tom Horsman on YouTube has several reviews of that oven and several others.
