A slightly bigger project than intended

I originally started browsing the posts on here looking for some inspiration on how to best replace a tired looking table on a one touch platinum. This was to be a small job that I was intending on taking a weekend, maybe two. What i failed to take into account was firstly, Corona virus and the subsequent lock down. Secondly, and probably more importantly, my complete inability to keep things simple and not try and make my projects both challenging and resist the urge to try out new ideas and techniques.
What followed was a continuing evolution of ideas that resulted in me deciding to build an outdoor kitchen / table. I told myself that the platinum table size was a little tight and I needed more space, this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
So with an abundance of time, thanks to Corona virus, my inability to resist my own worm hole like idea process and the weakest of excuses, this is what was created.

I had thought about it, but they are hard to get hold of here in the UK and I would have had to make the top a bit to wide to accommodate it. Glad you like it though.

🤤 First of all that's amazing. I also have a couple questions. Is that a concrete countertop? And what ring did you use in the middle? I made a concrete countertop for my kettle table and kettle fireplace but both of them cracked I was thinking about doing another mould but I can't figure out a better way to keep the heat away. Its a shame yours cracked, the fireplace is great.
Yes its cast concrete.
So I used a kettle from a performer that had the brackets on the sides. The brackets sit in two recesses in the concrete and the ring sits in a shallower recess to hide the brackets. So the ring is only aesthetical. There is about 3/4 inch gap all around between the bowl and the concrete and a large gap at the back where the lid bale is. Where as yours look like the bowl is sitting in contact with the concrete all around, is that right?

Ya I tried putting some fiberglass insulation tubing in between the concrete and the kettle but pretty sure it was enough and there were definitely some direct contact spots I just bought some unknown bbq mounting brackets so maybe I can steal your idea and use those to keep it a safe distance away.

Yeah I'd say a decent air gap is the way to go. I think you could get a good inch and still have enough of the bracket sat on the top.
