Hey y'all,

Happy Friday! So I have been working on a solution to fix torn off / rusted through old handles, eliminating new taco handles, using old wood single or double screw, and no exposed hardware. Here's the solution. What do you think?

Those straps look pretty good.  I would recommend using 1.25" washers on the top with some kind of gasket material between the washer and lid.  Also, I use a 1.25" washer on the bottom, but you need to take a ball peen hammer to the hole so it doesn't crunch on the lip of the hole inside the kettle.  This gives the bottom washer a kind of cone shape that only touches on the outside edge when installed.  SS hardware is what I use as well.  They might stick out more though without the shield.  My washers aren't as noticeable with the shield in place.

I am hoping that with the larger washers the porcelain holds up a little better around the handle holes.

blu082003 Measured up an old handle from the wood handle era, laser cut from stainless steel, formed in a press and plug welded stainless studs in a tapped hole. Grind and polish weld off and it looks like it's welded on. The whole part is made of stainless. If you wanted to paint to match, that can be done as well, but since the taco grills were stainless, I opted to leave unpainted.

Jesus @Lilyankee I need to get my eyes checked.  I missed that you did a bolt delete on the strap.  Awesome!

@Lilyankee
I like it !
Will you be selling SS handle straps, with plugged welded studs?
If so, depending on price I'll take three.

So the newer plastic handles that come on the later model grills do not fit on this handle strap. Those are curved at the end, so it is necessary to use a single screw or double screw/rivet replacement handle. Zav handles and original old wood handles will fit on this mod. Hardware is 1/4"-20, the same as factory Weber.

I may make a pile of them if there is interest.... lets respond to this post for a week and see how much interest there is.  I am willing to make them and ship stateside (sorry my overseas friends, I am not familiar with shipping out of the US) Pricing would be determined by interest.

I would be in for 6 at the moment.

Not sure if the existing shield would fit, but these are pretty awesome.
