Genesis 1000 Lid

Howdy,

I'm working on a Genesis 1000 restoration - I've found tons of info here so far so thank y'all for all the guidance.
One thing I haven't seen posted (or maybe I'm just overlooking it) On the backside of my lid on the porcelain enamel section it's kind of calcified for lack of a better word.
I can't tell if it's just build-up that can be removed or if the enamel has just sort of bubbled up. I'm apprehensive to take a scraper too it since the front is in such good shape.
Anyone ever see this kinda thing?

A picture would tell us more.
Chances are it is just buildup that a razor blade will remove. But it is hard to say without a picture.

Post pic, but likely carbon and grease buildup.  Do as Kneab mentioned. 
A razor blade will not harm the porcelain finish.

Sorry for the delay kind of a rainy weekend. Snapped some pics this morning.

You're in for a work out.
Spray down the porcelain with some over cleaner.
If any gets on the end caps, wipe off immediately.
Put in a trash bag for a couple of hours.
Pull out and start scraping with a nice sharp razor
blade scraper.  Have plenty of blades on hand.
You may have to repeat this process a few times.
Spray with Simple Green to clean off the sludgy
mess you will be creating and wipe off with paper
towels.

haha it was a workout. Took the lid apart and started scrubbing
I opted for some Citrusafe and 0000 steel wool (honestly I think the wool did better job dry than using the spray)
But even after the first few scrapes, it started to flake/melt away to reveal the shiny porcelain.
Cut to a few hours and wool pads later and it's looking almost new.
Super stoked with the results. I was kind of bummed that I got everything looking nice and new but was stuck with the gnarly lid.

Last step is getting some fresh wood for the slats cut down.
A buddy of mine is making a custom butcher block for the top table - I'll post pics of the end results when it's reassembled.
