I've got the CB Roti and really like it.  Works great on both my SSP and 22" WSM.  For the most part, it seals well to the lid and bowl (or body of WSM.)

However, one thing that annoys me is the way that it leaks through the unused spit holes and motor mounts.  I know a bunch of folk plug these with fender washer sandwiches.

I cut some SS from the hardware store and made some covers to bolt into the motor mount holes and added holes under the "U" for the spit and made cover for the "U" that are bent to also cover the lip.  This works well on either "U".  These both seal very well, you can see in the pics how clean the metal is, the outside of the "U" piece and all but the Hole on the motor side are basically clean metal.

These were easy to make.  In fact I made a second set today so that I can fill all the holes and use this as a stacker.  Now to add to grate straps...

I don't have one, so I might be just a bit confused.  If I understood what you said & your photos, it looks like there are two sets of motor mount holes and holes for the skewer part of the rotisserie.  Basically, one set on the top & one set on the bottom.  Which leads to my confusion.  Any idea WHY they do this?  Are there two different motor mounts & spits that could be used, but that require differences in holes?

Yes.  It is reversible.  One side up for the kettle and the other side up for the WSM.  Need to move the motor mount when going between kettle and WSM.  The WSM lid is rolled like the kettle bowl and the WSM body section has a flange like a kettle lid.

This allows rain water (and condensation under a cover) to run to the inside of the smoker, causing mold inside the WSM if not used frequently in the PNW.

Oh, now that makes sense.  Didn't think about how the WSM setup is.  Thanks.

Thanks.
Also, in case you don't know already: after you use a WSM, if you flip the center section upside down, it helps to prevent water from getting inside.
That way the lid goes over the "bottom" of the center section and the "top" of the center section goes over the outside of the bowl lip.  This way, the water pretty much flows over the outside of the lid, onto the ouside of the center section, onto the outside of the bowl, instead of going inside.

However, if you set it up this way for smoking (and flipped the center guts upside down), you'd have moisture & gunk running down the inside of the lid onto the outside of the center section and then outside the bowl.  Which, explains why Weber did it the way it did.

That's a good idea. Never thought of turning the middle section upside down for storage.

I wonder why kettle lids aren't flanged the same way, to keep dirty moisture on the inside of the bowl. Perhaps because of the wsm water pan there is more condensation in the wsm lid to run down?

You are likely right, because it is usually less of an issue with a kettle as there often isn't a much moisture.  I notice that Weber seems to give a cover with a new WSM & it is probably because of the rain issue.  Whether a kettle or a smoker, you don't want a much of water mixing with the ashes.

With the kettles, at first I assumed rain was getting through the top vent, into the kettle, & then out through the bottom into the ash bucket.  Was trying to figure out how so much water got through there.  After thinking about the WSM, I realized the rain is not getting into the vent, but running down the outside of the kettle & a decent percentage just streams along the curved surface until it is above the bucket and most of it just streams right in.  At that point, I realized why you see (reasonably often) pictures of a used performer or master touch with the bucket removed & sitting underneath upside down.

Empty that bucket of ash & then remove it so the rain water doesn't sit in there with whatever ash is left messing up the metal.

I added a probe port to the blank for the unused motor mount.  I think it will work well when I use the CB Roti ring on my kettle (my WSM has a probe port already.
