Spitting maul take 2

Some of you may have remembered that I found an ancient splitting maul head and put a handle on it and broke it almost right away.

Old axe handle this time. Hewed the end and cut my own kerf and wood wedge. I reused the metal wedge. It's a custom mini maul at 24". It can be used one or two handed. I tested it. It splits wood well. I'll use it for more detailed work processing my smoke wood.

I haven't weighed it but it feels like it's half the weight of a traditional maul. I still need to choke way up on the handle for one handed use but it works well where a regular maul would be very difficult.

I'm sure I'll break the handle again so I'll have another chance to try out different handles lol. I'm not that good at replacing handles yet but I'm getting better. I still have 2 broken sledge hammers and a broken axe I can practice on.
