Did a simple mod on my 2013 classic kettle, tired of wearing a glove to control temp...

Also added a gasket this past weekend, amazing how much of an improvement that was!

Got a Lava Lock Kit off of Amazon...  Have enough left over for a 26" Kettle whenever I add that to my repertoire...

Took a 1" Oak dowel, flamed it and attached it to a Stainless T door handle from Home Depot...  Cook last night it was nice and cool!!!

Did you use the self-adhesive version?

nice handle mod!

I have been wondering if a gasket was worth it. can you tell a bit about what the difference is?

I used to have leaks at multiple points around the lid.  After installation ZERO LEAKS!  Only out the top vent.  I haven't done a long cook yet, but I assume I'll be more efficient. There will be less points for air to get in or heat to escape.  Based on the fact that I get thin blue smoke several minutes faster than I used to I think is a good sign...
