Let’s talk Chestnuts: roasting and best ones to purchase
« on: December 19, 2018, 04:39:55 PM »
I’m looking to roast some Chestnuts next week.

I have done them in the oven and bought them in ShopRite.

They always come out ok.

Some nuts deshell well and others I end up eating the red, brown skin - not kid friendly unless I make them clean.

Any advice on the best way to roast’m like you get on the streets in Europe or Dickens story? I’m all ears.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas

I have a chestnut pan that I use. https://www.amazon.ca/World-Cuisine-Black-Carbon-Chestnut/dp/B000ZM4P4A

I use it on my gas cook top. I may try it on the kettle this year.

I use an old fireplace popcorn popper.
A SJ makes a grate nut roaster.
