Made a extension out of a 55 gallon drum (was unlined and used for coconut oil). Forgot to buy some expanded metal to make a charcoal basket so used my make shift slow n sear by opening it up a little. Worked great but may message the lip of the lid open a little to fit perfect. Also added grill gasket on the inner rib that sits on the kettle base to seal it up tight.

Very cool!  That will come in handy for ribs too.

Yep. I just have to make a proper charcoal basket for it.

That looks great....and much cheaper than the versions of that available.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Try to get the diffuser a bit higher  or use double diffuser so there's an air gap in between.  This will allow you  to smoke  or cook indirect hot & fast without the drippings getting too hot and start smoking.

Yep I plan to get the diffuser higher. Maybe 3 more screws towards the bottom of the extension.

This is the second one I've done and it was so much easier. The first one I did all types of cutting to make the extension fit inside the kettle base. All you have to do is cut the 55 gallon drum  slightly below one of the ribs and it will sit on top. There are slight size variations in 55 gallon drum sizes. Some may sit tight and others may be a little loose like mine so I added some lava lock type gasket and it seals perfectly.

You mean my Walt's got a brother?!! :) Nice mod, and thanks for the Lava Lock gasket tip! I've been struggling with too much air getting in from below & raising the temps to around 400* on the top rack, even with bottom vents fully closed. I'll give the gasket a try.

Usually Walt lives/works on a shorty I modified that does double duty as a fire pit. But for Thanksgiving this year, my parents requested I smoke the turkey at their house, and we were driving down the day before.  Walt made the trip along with my portable 22 with lid clamps. (Still unnamed; open to suggestions on that one.)
