My mother in law was just placed in hospice. Today, i cooked a whole chicken on the wsm destined for chicken and rice soup. I wanted to cook the chicken to be fall apart tender and juicy for the soup but I didn’t want a smoke flavor. I wanted normal traditional flavors. I’ve never really cooked a chicken in the oven and I didn’t want to gamble. I cut the bird in halves and cooked on the wsm with no smoke wood. My gamble paid off and nobody noticed it was “grilled”. I wanted to provide a little comfort to my in laws. It was really enjoyed and I hope to be cooking meals as much as I can during this difficult time.
Cooking takes on a special meaning during times like this. Luckily my mother in law was still well enough to eat. You never know when your talents will be called upon for a greater purpose then just the normal dinner or weekend party.
