Welome from DC Metro
« on: May 11, 2018, 05:29:13 AM »
Hey guys. Finally snagged a used kettle off of craigslist. Have lurked here for a while. I've had a WSM for a few years now. Love it for what its good at but been wanting to get into the kettle life and finally made it happen last week. Also picked up a napoleon cast iron grate.

I'm a hardcore homecook. I cook almost every night of the week. I'm into pickling, fermenting, butchering, curing, gardening, pasta making, etc. If it can be made, I try to make it. Have failed more than my fair share of experiments but thats part of the learning curve.

Welcome Tony.  Looks like you are quite a cook.  I'm hungry.

Where in the DC area are you?  Let's see some pictures of your WSM and Kettle.

"North Bethesda" or Rockville...whatever you wanna call it. Right near Pike and Rose. Will take some kettle action shots this weekend. Just picked up a bag of Royal Oak at lunch and have some kebab plans for Mothers Day.

Agreed, there was a Mid-Atlantic meetup last year.  I've been looking for a park that we could use but am struggling to find a place where we can bring grills.

Hmm I never considered that they won't let you bring grills... I'll take a look see as well.

We did one at a park near Annapolis a couple years ago. Not a big turnout, but we did bring kettles and were allowed to use them. @dwnthehatch may have some ideas. There is a place on the Eastern Shore that looks great too. I can always do it at my place again, but the crew may be getting tired of the drive to PA. I'll start a meetup thread and see where it goes.

C'mon Tony ... you're surely sandbagging us?

Those are not typical "I saw the recipe on a blog" cooks.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Just an iPhone. Not even any filters. All about natural light.
