Hello. Today was my first cook in the wsm. Cooked up some ribs and ribtips . I have an M code wsm with no ash catcher. What are y'all doing to add one? I don't have much in the floor but would like to keep in off of it. Thanks in advanced .

Its not an ash catcher. Its a heat shield. I don't have one either. No big deal as long as it's concrete.  Probably needed if cooking on wood deck

Heyjude

The older WSM's didn't come with the shield.. So you're not missing anything.
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

I've used my 18 on both wood and "Trex-like" decks without a problem. No heat shield.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

As I recall, a member here suggested that the "newer" version of the 18.5" WSM (the ones with the Heat Shield) leg(s) kit was a perfect match for the older WSM's.  Should be pretty straightforward swap if you want the extra insurance.   I use mine on a wooden deck, but I always have a BBQ mat underneath it during smoking.

None on mine either and I have an old one. I have it in a concrete patio but I have one of those big cement squares underneath it. It boosts it up just a smidge and because my old girl has had a rough life and has some pin holes, it keeps slow drips from staining my patio.
