Ok.. as we all know by now.. sticking your magnet mount thermometer to the lid of your kettle when doing hot and fast rib is just a bad idea. This is compounded by the fact that sometimes I forget to grab my sidekick table or I'm just too friggen lazy to go get it before or after I have everything started up.
No! I don't use a thermometer when doing hot and fast ribs ;-)
Anyway... I wanted a way to quickly set my iGrill up and deal with it in case of rain.
So this is what I came up with. 1 chunk is 1/4 steel rod .. got lucky and it was cad plated.. and a part from a car.  Let's see if someone can figure out what car the part came from ;-)
Anyways... what do you think about it?
If it rains I can easily cover it with a plastic bag.

1/4 rod is just something I could not throw out because if I hang on to it for 15 years I might use it for something.
The plate is a VW beetle .. old air cooled type.. oil pump cover plate for the gears. I have saved this for 20 years before I came up with this ;-)
Lots of people are going to say.. oh.. that thing :-)

I'll take three, please :D
Nice bendy job.
Cold bend?  Or did you persude it with the torch.

Now I know why I save rod and bar stock too.
Really nice rods inside old printers.

Cold bends with a Ridgid tubing bender. Trying to save the plating on it.
Then welded the rod in two of the stud holes of the pump plate, ground the welds a little and hit it with silver wheel paint.
The most work went into planning out the bends good because I only had one rod to make it out of.

My wife was a salesperson for a wholesale German Auto Parts company.  She recognized the plate right away.  Your invention is the kind of thing I could see being presented on the TV show Shark Tank.  I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see something similar being produced in the near future now that your idea has been revealed.

I like the color of your grill man, I haven't seen a pewter one like that
