Don't know how tall you are but you should definitely try it. Also you will not believe how stable/stiff the tabletop once you chop and eliminate the casters.

Chopped char-iot! Cool!
Only cool for the shorter folks, otherwise it will be PIA for the vertically gifted.

Heyjude

@Jules V.

I have a question for you.  Where did you find that pan to fit int he Gen 1?  And what are those screws off to the side of it?

Those pans are full size restaurant steam pans. You can also use 1/2 or 1/3 steam pans in a different configurations as pictured below. The screws are used to attach a metal plate for the pan/pans to  rest on.  Gas assist tank has been converted to a 1 lb tank and relocated to a different  location.

Thanks! You executed that perfectly...

Nice mod.  As someone who is 6'3 though, this kills my back just looking at it!

Absolutely not for the vertically gifted. Now I know how a 6'3" person  feels  like in front a performer  since I'm 9" shorter and it just happens that i lowered the 2 gen2's by 9" from 33" to 24". Actually working out great for me since my  4 and 6 yrs old daughters  are beginning to show interest in the grills.  They always seem to be hanging around and checking what I'm cooking.

I love my gen 2 performer because it is a little taller than the others.  I can't talk too much about the shorter grills though because my ranger, which I cook on often, is much shorter than the standard 22.  It is the perfect height for kickin' back in a chair right next to it and being able to grill while maxin' and relaxin'!
