Found this beauty on Facebook marketplace.. asking $200, got it for $75! (Australian Dollarydoos that is!)

Came with the enamelled serving tray which matches the hood and the original purchase documents. Was $1722 new in 1992!

Hoping for a full restore as time/money permits.. the Steam N Chips accessory has seen better days but I don't like my chances of finding a replacement!

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

It is! appears to have near new enamelled grates on it & the warming rack was replaced at some stage.

It will need a fair bit of elbow grease but it is in great shape for such an old grill!

Slow progress being made!

Finally had a chance to pull it all down. Frame is in good condition, some surface rust which should sand off and refinish nicely. The cook box strangely has some damage at the front, looks like someone hit it with a mallet (not visible when assembled) and some pitting visible after I had a mate sand blast it and the hood ends.

All in all, I think the rest should refurbish nicely. I plan to buy new burners and flavorizer bars. I am even toying with the idea of making my own flavorizer bars. Weber want $175 for a stainless set!

Also pictured is the cook box, hood ends & alloy grates for a Silver A I picked up before the 5000. The grates were sandblasted and then I hit them on the wire wheel and they came up really nice.

OH, and I got the one and only remaining 'Steam N Chips' from Weber Australia!!

Hopefully I can finish the Silver A and flip that to free up some funds to progress the 5000!

Restorations like this are inspirational. With gassees not all that popular amongst Aussie collectors, they epitomize the motto: Rescue, Restore, Respect.
