@SMOKEFREAK, please help, why cook burgers over cast iron rather than directly on the grates?  Similar to indoor cooking on a griddle, like many restaurants and take-out joints?

Well there are so many answers to this question...
First I needed bacon for my burger...So I used the griddle...Dumped the fat...Then cooked the burgers on the griddle...Seemed right at the time...
Second, more and more I like the taste of a griddle fried burger over the taste of a straight up grilled burger...But that's just me...
Third, I love using my CI on the charcoal grill...
So why not just cook it in a pan in the house?
Well I have this uncontrollable urge to burn charcoal and drink beer...I can't be the only one...
AND my wife says I make too much mess when I cook in the house...
I win  8)

Also @rfacko, related to griddles or fry pans there is a method that creates a "smash burger." Usually thinner, this is what you get at Steak 'N Shake for example. You'd use a solid, firm spatula to flatten the meat on the cooker. Optionally, a cast iron burger press can help cook the top of the meat while it helps flatten it.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I've also been using the CI griddle for burgers lately. It's different and I kinda like that greasy spoon burger flavor sometimes.
May The Smoke Be With You!

That sure looks good!  Neat griddle.

@rfacko  - Cooking on cast iron instead of the grate has a lot of good reasons!  Try reverse searing a steak and finish it on cast iron as hot as you can get it with some pork lard!!!!!!

@SMOKE FREAK -  Looks amazing!!!!

Thanks for the tips everyone, I haven't done much more than baked beans in CI on the kettle.  I'll try CI burgers soon!
