Learned something tonight I thought I'd pass on
to others using a poortex cobbled from an Angelfood pan.
Don't mess with it when its hot.

The thing acted like wet cardboard when touched.
I wanted to shake down some ash and it practically
folded in on itself.  Once it cooled down I was able to
reshape it with no trouble.

Love the way it cooks.
Love it enough to save up for a small and a medium
for the 22 and the 26.  Gonna get a SnS and the drip/ griddle
thing as well.

The poortex proved the concept to me  but is no substitute
for a quality product.

Thanks for that info. I have stirred some coals in mine to shake off ash, but I used the long grill fork. So I did not experience any softening of the pan.  But really good to know.  Also, we snipped the bottom flange and folded it down to give a very sturdy top edge. That might help mine be more stable

Is your angel food poortex SS?

It's alluminum.
I did the same. It was a 2 piece
Pan and I beat down the rim as well.
What do expect for a buck?!

Time to start looking for a SS pan
until we can order the real deal.

clarissa

SS cake pans are expensive......might as well just buy the real deal. I will use mine till I have an issue.  So far it works quite well.

YardBurner

Nah. Won't buy a new SS cake pan.
Too many out there in thrift stores and garage sales.
The one I'm using cost a buck.

I don't see anything that is steel without a non stick finish......which I was strongly advised against in this forum.  So I used my old aluminum pan.

YardBurner

Agreed.
But this is possibly the thinnest pan I've seen.
Maybe heavier gauge would do better.
Still, so far it has worked like charm.
