1000th Pic Loaded - Pork Shoulder - Updated cook 2
« on: February 04, 2017, 08:55:20 AM »
Okay my 1000 post! Oh what to do, what to do?

PORK SHOULDER! I’m going to watch a famous football game at my friend’s house tomorrow night (Don’t want to get sued for saying the real name LOL) and said what should I bring. He said whatever I want to grill. Well I told all of you in a post that I would be making a shoulder.

So I go into the garage in the morning to get some hickory lumps out and guess what? YEP! Out :o! Out to Homedepot to pick up a bag of wood. WOW Kingsford is proud of the wood they sell $19.97 per bag :(! Oh well pick it up anyway.

Now the shoulder to prep  ;D. A good wash of cold water and a pat down with paper towels and a good portion of John Henrys “Old Stock Yard Rub” and what am I missing? Yes the same for a good old can of low sodium SPAM ! Mix a little bit of Apple Cider Vinegar and Apple Juice and we are good to go.

Get the charcoal started and prep the grill. Now what to use? That’s a no brainer the “Dual OTP” My favorite! But please on one tell the others LOL. Now how do I prep the grill Get the “Smokenator” ready, chop some Kingsford wood down to size to fit, cover fully the charcoal rack the Smokenator is not using, and fill the Smokenator with the lit charcoal, and then the water pan.

Now put the shoulder on the grill and pray and watch! I’ll be spraying with the Apple Cider Vinegar and Apple Juice about every 1.5hrs and rotate the lid about every 1hr or so. I will refill when needed and take pictures throughout the processes. This is a 8+Lbs Shoulder and should take about a 12pack I mean 10+ hours smoking at about 250 to 300 degrees with the little hiccups we all know and love!

I hope all enjoy! I know I will!!!!

Stayed for a couple and had to leave to check on my food! Not to cold out 30 degrees but a great day!

Got it done! Wow oh wow! Love that John Henry's. The bark has a bite lol, but the rest has a nice not to over powering smokey taste.

Sounds like a great day was had. I buy my wood at Home Depot too and I like the big bags of kingsford but the price shocked me the first time as well.
