Simple used "All purpose flower" and ...

Cooked with a custom made "Vortex" took 1 hr rotating the lid vent every 15min.

Turned out a nice and crunchy skin and juicy meat! Next time more heat!

Looks awesome! What fuel did you use? Also, what did you make your vortex out of?

@kettlebb I used a full chimney of "Walmart  charcoal briquettes" as for the Vortex... a buddy of mine made me 3 of them out of "Stainless Steel" im not  of the thickness of the Stainless but he made it just a bit larger height wise and its thicker steel than the real "Vortex" I love it!

Oh and he welded the full seam not just a spot weld like the original

Looks great Shoestring! I had a problem with the Walmart brand not getting hot enough on a few cooks. I stopped using it. It's the brand, not you.

@Travis I don't really have a problem with the Walmart brand when using a Vortex. That's my go to when useing Vortex because I know I'll go thru a full chimney in 1.5 hrs running wide open on top vent and wide open on the bottom. Plus it's cheap😜

Good point. I just seemed to have bad luck with it, but maybe I was over the legal limit at the time or something!! Is there a drinking limit when it comes to grilling?!?!

@Travis No such thing "Drinking limit when grilling" 😂. I myself only have a problem with drinking when I run out!

Very nice homemade vortex. I'm thinking of using the dremel to cut the lid from this grill up and try to make my own version.

@kettlebb That could work may need 1.5 chimneys to fill it. I would take a coffee can top put it into the upside down lid (that would act as the "hole" at the top" then dump a full chimney into the lid and that may help you figure out how much charcoal it would take to load up your custom Vortex before you cut it?

Just my thought🤔.

Wings are my favorite. Those look great.  If you start dropping your lid than you've reached the drinking limit.

As long as the lid does not crash to the ground, you are within the legal limit. I was pushing the boundaries today.
