Me.... I'm just looking forward to spending time with my wife and son and making some great BBQ ;D!
Just the extra time off is a great gift.
Wife said "No more GRILLS in this house!" So I bought a 2nd house!

We were just talking about this in our family.   We have a large family so we pick a name out of a hat and only buy for that person. Secret Santa style.  I think we put a $150 limit.

Looking at getting nice Wusthof or JA Henckels knife sets made in Germany.  Both above $1200 reg., both on sale for just under $500 now.   I think I will get one this Christmas if they go for $300-$350 or lower.   Might not be directly related to BBQ stuff, but it is for me.

As for kettles, I want new dark green OTG or and a new 26".

Go Wusthof. And get the Ikon grade stuff...or better. After Xmas there will be tonnes of sales on stuff down South that will make the exchange rate worth it. Cutleryandmore.com always has good sales and I sourced my stuff from them quite a bit.

I'll have to keep this in mind too because a good set of knives has been on my mind for a while.  The set I got in early 2009 on sale at Canadian Tire was never all that great and the frequently used knives are dull now.  They all have serrated edges too so using a sharpening steel on them isn't possible.

a nice, big gift certificate to a local butcher shop.

Agreed.  This was top of mind for me.  Without food to cook, what's the point of all the grills and smokers and the other stuff that goes with them?

I would not recommend getting a set of knives. Too many you'll never use. A great 8" chef's knife is the starting point for any useful collection - take your time and get one that fits your hand - brand is secondary as long as it's high quality. (My latest go-to knife is one I found at a yard sale for fifty cents; an older F Dick chef's knife. Well balanced and it sharpened up really well.)  A serrated bread knife is surprisingly useful too - and rarely in a set. After that, is all personal preference, but I could easily do with a Chef's knife alone. A boning knife is great for trimming large cuts like brisket or shoulders. Again, not typically in a set. IMHO - buying one at a time is the way to go, and they don't have to match.

My two cents. YMMV. Oh, and I need to spend more time sharpening my knives. I'm way too lazy with that.

I agree with you @ 56MPG, if I knew more about these new knives or had patience or enough interested in putting my own set together, I will buy one at a time.  Yes, you are correct! I could be happy with one good knife like this.  Shun Classic Hollow Edge Santoku Knife from the site @MrHoss provided or Wusthof classic.

But I wanted a good set to start.   Anyways, I compromised and got this set.  Henckels Forged Aviara Knife Set, 17-pcs . Not the most expensive set,  but still at  $900 reg. on sale for $229.

Even the steak knife is forged in Spain. One man Henckels international not a two men German made, Zwilling J.A. Henckels, thus cheaper than Wusthof or Zwilling 2 men Henckels made in Germany.

Victorinox 8 Inch Swiss Classic Chef's Knife, is my next chef knife!
