I'd say with proper ventilation and fire management,  go for it.
Word of advice, just in case.....a standard Kitchen extinguisher would be a good idea...and like others said..light the chimney elsewhere, not covered.

I would add having some welding gloves, something heat resistant, in case you need to move a flaming kettle away from the house. And keep the lids on the kettles - don't walk away from an uncovered kettle.

I end up with melted foot prints in the snow. Got a electric charcoal starter free and I am going to try it on the windy days as for rain, well... Wyoming is not noted for that much of it.
