I've been searching for one of these bad boys for well over a year now and finally struck gold yesterday... The 5000 has a few unique features to it including a set of glass doors and a fully enclosed cabinet. It also has the 13 flav bars like the platinum models as well as a smoker kit. To my surprise this particular example also has a few extra little goodies that I haven't seen before like a matching porcelain enameled serving tray, and a cool "Flamecheck" system that will kill the gas to the grill if the burner flame goes out - very cool! Also digging the grey color 8)

I'm just starting the tear down but here are a bunch of before pics...

...Stay tuned - LOTS more to come!

@SixZeroFour , welcome to the 5000 club. I have the exact same one. The Flame check is actually a thermocouple. You need to hold down until heated. Works off the first
burner. The bad about that, you can't run the side burner on its own. Front burner has to be on. Congrats on a great find.

Interesting about the side burner not lighting without the main... i may swap out the manifold for a regular one if it becomes a nuisance. Thx.

Hi SixZeroFour,

you will find the flame check system a real pain. Sooner or later they fail, and there are no parts available from Weber.

Front burner has to be on ALL the time for ANY of the other burners to be lit.

While you have it apart just remove it, no need for a new manifold. From memory it goes somthing like gasline to thermocouple to manifold.

Just remove the thermocouple valve, connect the gasline direct to the manifold as with any other 1000-5500, and leave the plastic round button in the control panel hole for looks.

It is fun to restore the 'Top of the Range' gassers. Why settle for less?

That's pretty cool! I just picked up an old Genesis Gold that I'm pretty excited about! Nice score! I REALLY like the serving tray! That's handy as hell!

What @vmile said. I just reworked one of these and deleted the FlameCheck.
I also have a full set of glass doors and hardware if anyone needs them.
