New member here from Iowa, but your website got me away from buying a brand new Performer after seeing some of your finds.

Yesterday I got a call from my Dad and we were chit chatting.  He asked what I had been up to and I explained that I had been calling turkeys for some friends, doing some fishing, etc., but at the moment I was scouring CL for an older weber performer SS and wished he still lived in Chicago because that CL had a few listed as I chuckled.  His reply, "I bought one about 15yrs ago when I was in Chicago and it is in the back corner of our storage unit with a bunch of **** piled on it.  Thought I would enjoy cooking on charcoal but just never really used it.  It had a stainless table and auto light feature for the charcoal.  Why don't you just come and take it home with ya."    Well, hell yes!!!

So...I was so stoked I didn't even ask colors or anything.  I'm assuming since it has been stored inside that it will be in good condition.  I'm pretty sure I had dreams last night of cooking a big pile of steaks while my buddies all stood around drooling over my new cookware.

Anyways....what parts, if any, do you normally need to replace on older models??

I will be sure to post some pictures once I get it.  Thank you everyone for starting me down this journey.

Welcome!

Hopefully your Dad liked the color red     ;D

As long as he didn't put it away wet, it'll probably be in great shape. And since he never really used it, you may get a full tank of gas too.

Clean spiders out of the tube and I'll bet you'd be good to go.

I'd be stoked too!

My Dad never had a Weber     :(

Dude, relax your chicken.

Add some pics of your new/old performer especially the lid vent so we can see it's birthdate.   Open the SS access panel and take a shot of the Propane valve handle.  Clean it up and get to cooking.                      SJ

Nice.   Be sure tho thank your old man.   Give that girl a nice slow sensual rub down and she will be ready to go.
