It got me to thinking, I've seen quite a few vintage Kettles that are being used here that are pitted out, cancerous looking - but still cooking!







I primarily go after Redheads because I've found that as long as I can get the Dupli-Color Engine paint (DE1653 RED) I'm golden. I have touched up a few Greens and Dark Blues,  but was never really all that jazzed with the paint match results. Basically just cosmetic to keep rust from spreading.

I tried some Stove Brite spray paint that has a ton of colors but found their Red was no better than Dupli Color.

I think for me the kettle that was the worst case restoration was a No date code 18" Bar-B-Kettle, it was a curb alert freebie that had all the leg sockets either broken or hanging on with rust. I cut steel discs and drilled into the leg socket tabs and pop riveted them through the bowl into the backing discs.



It wasn't pretty, but it worked.







I gave it to a friends daughter (a redhead) and it is still being used!



So.......those Brownies and Copper tops, Glen Blues, or Yellows, who has had success (or failures) with cosmetic touch ups to the porcelain finish and what was your worst nightmare RRR??

Great job. I remember reading posts on using the engine paint for touch ups. I used red brake caliper paint to touch up my red ss performer and have been so happy with it, what did you use to touch up your green.

I have used JB Weld and paint.

I will not use paint again as it has turned black, but the JB weld has held up.

JB Weld is a great idea!  I once used it to cover an entire oil pan that was so rusty it was oozing oil....held for at least two years to the time I for rid of the truck.
