Smoked Turkey
« on: April 21, 2014, 06:16:32 AM »
A couple of weeks ago I asked for some advice for smoking a turkey.  I fired up the grill and gave it a shot.  I was very happy with the results.  I doubt that I will be cooking a turkey any other way moving forward, and my wife agrees.  Here are a few pics that actually remembered to take.

Just on the grill

At some point during the cook.  Sorry for the crappy pics.  Obviously it was getting dark.

Off and resting.  That big chink pulled off the top was the result of my Dad.  I think he liked it.   ;)

I'll definitely be doing this again.  Thanks for looking!

I dunno, Buckie.  I think it may be overkill to fire up grill to heat up fish sticks for my 3 year old daughter.  :)  ;D

Wow, looks great!

What kind of temps did you run, and what kind of smoke?  Just wondering.

My target temp was 325, and I was able to keep it between 325 and 350 pretty much the whole time.  I used apple wood for the smoke.  I thought hickory, the only other wood that I had, might be a bit too heavy for turkey.

You could always use a CGA and like three or four briquettes and a sliver or two of alder to heat up her fish sticks..  ::)

Heh.  Alright, I'll bite. So do you thaw before you throw them on?  And would you cook direct or indirect?  Ha!!  ;)

 8) I would go with frozen and indirect and help her make her own custom "tartar sauce" 8)
