Off duty kettles pitching in.

Do you ever find yourself deciding to utilize an off duty kettle to hold your tools instead of using your "on duty" kettle? Maybe I'm late to this method but I've recently started it because the tool holder gets in the way.

Red '79 cooking Sunday breakfast and the Warrior is holding tools for the Statesman...



Do any of you do the same?

I can't hang my tools.. I have dogs and they attack everything within their reach!
Especially anything that smells like food.
I also like them to be a lot more sanitary. Too many flies and bugs and stuff. Just a personal preference.

Mine get a thorough scrubbing after each cook except for my charcoal tongs..

Yeah, my dog doesn't care if they are clean or dirty. He knows what they are used for!
He's been known to grab a hunk of charcoal form the bag and try to lick ashes from the pan.
Even while the grill is hot!
Ideally I need  a nice cabinet up high that I can keep everything in.

I have a wine barrel next to my main cooker that serves as a side table, and one of the classic weber tool holders hangs perfectly on the edge of it. The 22" weber lids fit great on top of the barrel for those times when you need two hands (and dont have a slide aside).

I will say that the barrels vary a bit, but most of the ones I've encountered work great, and they are fairly plentiful in southeastern Washington.
