That's why this is the best place around. Congrats Winz and the food looked amazing.
A Wonderful Family!!!

How freakin' awesome was that!  Very cool of Wins to host and have a chance to showoff and fire up that grail grill. A looker and a cooker, like they should be.

Wow, I am so jealous.

Major props to Winz for firing up that beauty, and to gummi for capturing some incredible images.

...and yeah, buckie should charge admission for the chance to watch him cook!

This is awesome! This is what it is all about, right there! What a great way to rededicate a great looking vintage cooker that doubles as a looker. The scenic views, the steaks, the camaraderie. That's what makes great memories!  :)

That looks like it was an awesome day! Thanks for sharing. Nothing beats great bbq with friends especially on a kettle like that!   8)

Great comments and I couldn't agree more. The right man sure got that cooker. Excellent food and company. I look forward to meeting everyone at the big Nor Cal meet this year.

If it breathes, we can cook it!

This is an AMAZING post!

Isn't THIS what the hobby is all about?!?!  You can talk all day long about how to preserve these old kettles, but I really think we're doing them a HUGE disservice when they get polished up and stuck away in someone's private storage doing nothing but gathering dust.  It's safe to say that we're all interested about the possibility of finding a great old kettle like this, but ya gotta remember that in the end, it's just up to us to move the hobby forward, and what a better way to do it with some great friends and food.  Please follow Winz's lead and keep these old kettles cooking.

WAY TO GO WINZ!!

You know when the whole thing went down I felt a little jealous that I would like to have gotten such a grill, but honestly it looks like it ended up exactly where it was supposed to be.  At this point I think I'm more jealous that I couldn't go to that meal and meet you guys than I am about not getting that grill.  Was awesome to see you guys, that's what it's all about.....

Im still jealous.... :).  Seriously, thats a great post.  Good to see the Westerner in a good home and being put into service.

Excellent!  This shows the true value of a Weber. This particular Weber just happened to be a really cool old one. Keep up the great work.

Winz

Thank you all for the comments regarding the gathering.  It is one of the reasons I really enjoy this forum - the camaraderie that is the WKC.

I have got to tell you that after doing a cook on the Westerner, I am truly spoiled.  That kettle and I are about the same age and not to sound too sappy, but while cooking a couple of ribeyes on it, I knew that grill had seen so much more grilling action than I have.   It did its job to perfection, it was my job not to screw it up.

Buckie hit the nail on the head - this thing is stout and was perfectly designed for its task.  From the thick porcelain of the lid and bowl down to the steel wheels, this kettle will still be cooking for many years to come.  I hope all of you get a chance to cook on a 50 year old weber.  If you are ever in the neighborhood, you can certainly come cook on mine.

Nowheres near as sharp & defined as Gummi's pics, but I call this one:

"Sunset Over the Westerner!!"

"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!
"But the ever versatile kettle reigned supreme"

Nice buckie!  Below is one that Gummi took of the same basic idea - did I mention that guy has skills?
