18" redhead followed me home

Today's CL find was a nice 18" redhead. Paid $30. (I know, maybe $10 too much, but I had already invested gas money.) Took a few shots as found. Over all a nice little grill, with only a few areas of paint loss, but none to speak of on the lid! Clean-up will take some time as I'm on vacation over the next week, so be patient. By the way - no date-code stamp on the top vent, and it has three vent wheels on the bottom. The top handle has two rivets. Anyone want to venture a guess as to age? I can only surmise pre-1979.

Found it in Mt. Joy, PA. Took a closer look just now and everything is cool. Won't take much elbow grease to bring it back. A little Bar Keepers Friend and Simichrome and she'll shine like the 70s again. (I was there, and yes, they did shine...)The wheels are pretty well gone, but that bring's up a question. On one side the wheel is held on by a pressed on washer, but on the other there's a cotter pin through a hole in the axle. Did they go to the washer-type in any given year? Is this combo normal?

Thats a nice score! Looks like it's 8-10 years younger than my 18.5 red. Mines from circa '67, yours looks like a '77 or so.

More than likely, one of the press on "hub caps" was lost, so instead of buying a replacement "hub cap" they drilled the axle and used a cotter pin. I've done the same thing.
