Lowes has had a $12.99 price for the past couple of weeks. I guess I have been spoiled into thinking the $10/40lbs price is the sale to get excited about, but we get what they give us and $13 isn't terrible.

Could be different prices based on location.  I wish we got these kinds of deals on other brands of charcoal as well.

Very possible, but Ethan and I don't live that far from each other.  kinda odd that it came up as 9.88, I was hoping you were right.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Just got my local ad from Home Depot. Stated $12.99 (per 40 pounds) and went to pick some up. When I got there price was $9.88 for 40 pounds. Talked to person working there and he did not know why it was priced so low. I did not argue with him, just went and got a bigger cart to put more in. Walked out with 400 pounds and a smile on my face!
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Wow... That's a lot of coal. Figure it'll last you through the winter?  ;D

Wish I could get it for the 'old' $9.88 price!

Sorry guys, this is my fault - every time I get into a hobby the price goes up.

At least it's not like my other 'hobby', where you can't even find ammo.

It's 2x20 for $9.88 at one of my local Home Depot stores. If your store is showing the higher price, change your store on the site to one of the other nearby stores and see if it shows up lower.

All the other stores I checked in the immediate area have it listed at $12.88 except the one that is closest to me at $9.88.

For you AZ guys the store is the one on Cave Creek #0480.

Tell me about it... Even if you can find it chances are it is sub-par and really expensive!

I don't know what the deal was with the pricing. I guess I should have web ordered it and picked it up at the store.

Oh well. I will either get 5 or 10 depending on the price at the store. That will get me through winter

I may or may not have taken advantage of the last sale...

Meat doesn't cook itself you know. This was from my Labor day Walmart haul. The 2packs were <$8 per.

As some one who has just started cooking with charcoal, when do these sales start?

Do I have to pay full price until Labor Day or can I expect any other holiday sales before that?

Memorial day is just as big as Labor day.

I find the occasional sale price in between.

The three big ones are Memorial day (May), 4th of July (July, duh), and Labor day (Sep). Depending on where you live costco may have decent deals that start earlier, but those holiday sales give you the best price. My general baseline is:

$.50/lb= normal price
$.33/lb= decent sale price
$.25/lb= EXCELLENT sale price

If you have a place to store it just stock up when it falls below $.30/lb or at least til the next holiday
