Whats better then one new custom?
2 of them!!!

2 new 18" 'Californians' have joined my collection.
Yes that's right 2!!

A 1956-57 Chicago and a 1959 Wood Dale.
First Chromoveils in Australia!!

Bit of a crazy story with these so strap in for a long read and enjoy the pics.
The read is worth it.

So after my recent purchase of my 56 22" I had my eyes on a custom and was 150% committed to finding one and getting one into my collection.
Gotta be positive for these things!!!

I had done hours upon hours of research to find all of the publically known customs among the various fb pages, forums and on the Web.

After contacting 10+ owners with about 8 returning my messages I had no success with my various high offers getting knocked back or being told not selling (understandable).
(Never once thought it would work tbh).

Few weeks went buy and I decided to ask my main agent in the USA if he knew of any, he told me one would be hitting ebay this spring.
And sent through some very limited photos of it. (Was only bowl and lid)

Said I may be able to secure it before going to ebay if I'm lucky.

Agent 1 (can reveal himself if he wishes) sent me to Mike Mageski as he knew Mike had a contact/friend with a custom.

Mike got me onto the ebay seller and after a few days of no email response I was in direct contact.
He sent me a few photos of the custom he had and I had a look and in my excitement brushed over them quickly.

I then sent both lots of pics to my good mate Nathan and after his keen eye he mentioned that the grills are different.

After 10mins of Nathan and I deliberating we both realised they were 2 different pics of different grills.

I then dug a Lil further and shot an email off to the seller asking if he had one or 2 customs as I'd seen other pics also.
An anxious 24hrs went by as I knew a few other offers had been made on the Chicago previously and a handful of ppl knew about it.

I received an email while at work stating that he had 2 custom 18s but one was buried under ice and snow and couldn't be accessed until spring.

I instantly emailed back asking I'd he would dig the other out and I'd buy both off him at once.
With coaxing off Mike (friends with seller) he agreed to get the other out for photos.

I received more photos of the second unknown grill and made an offer that was accepted.
He also agreed to throw in wheels, original tray, multiple legs and a leg die for a press to make more steel rear legs.
(1 complete grill and 1 bowl and lid only)

Mike picked them up  and boxed them over the next week, until they were sent express from WI to Brisbane Australia in 72hrs.

Absolutely stoked these are here. And cannot believe I've managed to score 2 holy grail grills!!!

Massive thanks to my Agent for the invaluable info and to Mike for all the effort he went through in helping me to secure these and to box and pack them.
And to Nathan for his keen eye
