22” griddle
« on: January 12, 2022, 12:32:15 PM »
Got a Hunsaker griddle from my local grill store, St. Louis BBQ Store. Seasoned it with avocado oil and onion, then cooked up some cheese steaks over 1 chimney’s worth of Royal Oak hardwood briquettes. I will probably use half that amount next time.

I also picked up a black stone starter kit from Wally World that included two spatulas, a flat scraper and a couple water bottles.

For a first cook, they came out quite alright.

I cleaned it up with water, the scraper and a cloth while it was still piping hot.

I’m open to suggestions, hacks or any other info that will make this more fun/useful.

Great choice in getting a Hunsaker Smoker griddle. I love mine. Nice first cook on it!

Thanks guys. It's been fun.
I am going to add the Philly cheese steak to the to do list. It looks really good and it's one of those things that I had not thought of.

Very nice!  StL BBQ store is 5 minutes from my house… great place! I try to stay away, though… it’s not good for my wallet!

I really like mine as well. Way easier to store than a dedicated Blackstone

Here is my first cook on the Hunsaker griddle a few years ago in memory of my dad on Father’s Day.

While I have a Blackstone and dearly love that thing, I went ahead and ordered one of these. Question for those using it though, what do you use for drip pans? Anyone have pictures of how you lay it out? I assume folks are putting the charcoal in the center of the grill and then using some sort of aluminum pan or foil to catch the grease? I would see huge potential for a big grease fire if not careful...

Weber charcoal baskets lined with foil on each side, coals middle of the grill to the back - like half a pizza so you have a cool zone up front works well for me.  Only use about half a chimney.

These all look griddle, I mean grate!
KC sorry for your loss, was it your Dad’s griddle, or did he like to bbq?
Here’s breakfast burritos on the Hunsaker griddle over a 1 small chimney of Royal Oak hardwood briquets. I should have used 1 large chimney as the griddle refused to get hot enough, staying under 300F. Still cooked, just slow. It‘s mighty cold out.
Sweet peppers and onions, salt, pepper and butter.
Vermont sharp cheddar and bacon.
Finished them with Lola’s hot sauce. It has a little bit of ghost peppers but it is surprisingly mild and flavorful.
