Before I jump into this feet first I wanted to see if y'all had a recommendation on what y'all had done to replace the crossbars on an SSP when the internal threads had rusted out.

Apparently there is something like that at bike shops.  Use the search function (see the link above, but under the banner, while you are in the forums section) and see if you can find a thread about it.  I think @Walchit did an SSP restore recently & might pipe up about it.  If you have troubles finding a thread that discusses it, I'll take a look & see if I can find it for you.

1/4-20 Star Nuts.  You can order from Amazon, McMaster-Carr, bike shops....etc. Only like $15 usd.for a pack of 8. Plenty of info on here, just by searching "star nuts for ssp" at the top of this page.

If you only need 1 or 2, maybe other member with few spare star nuts can offer to send them to you. I have 1 or 2 spare somewhere but I am in Canada with cross border shipping issues.

You can also use a long threaded rod that goes the entire length then bolt it at each end.

I think I bought the 1 and1/8th inch star nuts at the bike shop. I don't advise this, but I'm pretty sure I held them with vise grips while I used a grinder to square them up a little.

@Red_5_Wrangler used stainless steel all-thread, with nuts on the outside, which is probably a better fix, and also what I will do when I get around to the plum ssp, and the bar on my genesis.
