Which kettle to keep?
« on: April 22, 2020, 02:36:51 PM »
I know, keep both. I need to move one of them along. The black is a basic 22, shows some age. Made in 2000. The green one I just picked up yesterday, basically for the side table and the cover. My predicament. The green one is in better shape and was made in 2007. The extra capacity ash bucket seems to be a pain to remove.

So, which ONE would you hold onto?

Thank you!!

Keep both.  But if you had to pick, keep the green.

I'd go with the green, because it's not just another standard black kettle. When it was built doesn't matter much to me, unless it's an MBH or older. The ash catcher looks to be similar to the one on my Performer. I have a little more difficulty putting it back in, but truthfully, it's more on the side of, "not easy" as opposed to actually being a challenge.

Green for sure . I'm not sure if you know this but, it helps if you squeeze the handle of the ash pan
when removing and replacing. I just figured this out and I've had my kettle for years.

Make the green a daily cooker and turn the black into a pizza kettle rig.  Gotta abuse those black kettles. [emoji14]

Green for sure....BUT like others have said, do something fun with the black one if you want.  Try some mods, cook pizzas on it - oh I know, get a spider grills pellet attachment for the black one and you can experiment with pellet smoking!

First off, welcome to the club.

Do you really need to ask which one. My avatar should give away the answer.  Also, ash bucket kettle is lot safer to use on wooden deck. I never use ash pan kettle on my deck for fire safety reason.

I’m going out on a limb to guess the greenie has stainless steel sweepers.

Green, for the ash catcher alone
But if the black has some sentimental value...
