That is a good looking Chief!
Thanks. So that's what it's called?
I have found very little info about them. I wonder how rare it is, compared to a red or black. Any other colors?

wow!  I gotta keep my open for things that might be for sale even if the seller didn't know it!
Me too! It's not like me to do that but after getting this and a yellow that way, I will be willing to try again!

Alright, so here's how the deal went down...or almost didn't...

I went up to the house and knocked on the door. The lady of the house answered. I told her that I was driving by and saw that brown grill and that I admire it because I collect them. I said that I don't have a brown one and asked if she would consider selling it?
She said it was her husband's and probably not, he's had it a long time.
I said well what if the price was right? She said she'll ask her husband...
She came back and said that it wasn't for sale. He had had it a long time and wants to keep it.
I said that I understand that but if he changes his mind would it be alright to leave my name and number? She said yes. I wrote it down and also wrote down what I would offer for it.
I planned to feal the situation out and maybe start with a $50 offer and go as high as $100 if they were willing to sell. I had $110 in my pocket.
But... since they said "no" I wrote down $150.
She said thanks, have a nice day and I walked back to my car disappointed.
I didn't even get in back in the car and she came back out and said that he would let it go for $150.
I said, well I don't have that much but I'll go get it and be RIGHT back and I hauled a** to the nearest ATM.
When I came back
I told her that I hate to take it  because he had it so long and asked if he was sure? Which I was... a little. She said yes. I payed her, loaded it up and grinned all the way to the carwash.

Nice score jiveturkey1.  Congratulations.

Here is a link to a 1969 Weber sales catalog.  In it you will find the three colors that Weber produced in the 26" size that year.  As a marketing strategy, Weber also gave names to the different size and colored kettles.  The 26" Copper Mist which you have was called the Chief.  The 22" copper mist was called the Warrior and the 18" size was called the Brave.  26"ers were produced in black (Fleetwood), red (Aristocrat), copper mist (Chief).

Weber produced one other colored 26" and it was called the Westerner.  You can find in pictured in the 1968 catalog link below.

There is one blue 26"that exists but blue was never offered for sale to the public.

Thanks. Yeah, on the way home I spotted a kettle silhouette behind a barn. I was like, man I wish I didn't see that, don't know how much of this I can handle

I will.
Right now I'm definitely feeling like keeping and loving it. I would entertain offers though but I don't want to turn this into that.
I'm just happy I was able to aquire it right now! And seeing how many slabs of ribs I could fit on it

First, Congratulations!! I'm stoked you found this in the wild!! Second, please enjoy this one thoroughly!! I was just saying a big IF you decide later on to move it along.

Kettlebb has called dibs on my near mint PP Warrior. I love it very much, but if i ever did sell it, kettlebb gets dibs. He is an honorable grillfella and we're both right down the highway from ya ;)
