The recipe

I like the glow at night this creates

Fire is ready

30 minutes and done

Tender and juicy 2 hour soak in the buttermilk drained and coated in lemon pepper and a Caribbean spice rub and finished up with some homemade spicy bbq sauce

Yaaas please

I could see experimenting with the buttermilk mixed with some mayo and either flour or even potato flakes. And tossing it on the grill.

Joe I like your recipe as-is but the cheapskate in me would want to utilize the buttermilk more, somehow? I know that's not rational, given that I just listed more ingredients "needed" LOL.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Those look delicious. I use the vortex to cook chicken also, works grate. I'll have to give the buttermilk marinade a try.

They look fantastic! I love grilling at night, especially in the fall and winter. There's something primal and magical about that glow.

What effect does that buttermilk have on the flavor of the chicken? I've never heard of that kind of marinade before and now I'm intrigued.

A quick soak in the buttermilk tenderizes the meat 2 hours tops though

What happens if left in the buttermilk for too long?

I believe it will start to actually breakdown the chicken due to the acidity of the buttermilk.
