"Grilling & BBQing"

This section, I believe, is  for methods & processes, so here's my personal format for wrappin' 'em up...........hope this helps in the ongoing quest for the more tightly wrapped 'Turd........ :D

First, in reguard to the planning stages, I'll refer to either of these two formulas:

I've found that the above offer enough flexibility to accomodate personal preference..............

Ok.....

1) Top & spilt, i usually do 3~4 at atime to move things along.....

2) Choose & prepare filling..... ( tandoori spiced cream cheese in this case )

3) Load pepper shell & wrap around end to contain filling (also known as the "End-Around Wrap")

4) Twist & flop, begin to stretch bacon here............

5) Continue around, stretching gently but firmly..................

6) Complete & tag with toothpick ( some folks skewer at this point, some just pull the bacon snug & go......I like a Sure-Grip 'Turd, so toothpick it is......)

7) Fire Up.....

8) Load coals..............

9) Load 'Turds..........................

*** i've taken to cooking for a short time before adding wood, at a bit higher heat to seal things up somewhat......

10) Add wood, aiming for a clean, thin blue burn........

11) 1-1/2 to 2 hours, even a bit more sometimes at a fairly low heat ( 215 ~ 235 )

12) Not the very best batch I've done, but here's the footprint of the consumed 'Turds ~~~>

Hope this aids in the production of higher quality 'Turds for all........ ;D

Nice technique.

Does the bacon in the inside layers remain chewy? or does it become bite through or crispy?

1buckie

Some end up a little chewy if they're overlapped too much, but most are bite thru ...... ;D

Like snowflakes, each 'Turd is unique..... 8)

Chris....I probably never go more than two weeks 'Turdless.....

Hogsy......I have about 3500 pics on Photophucket & maybe 700 have to do with 'Turds, so if you need  more & better angles just ask......

Make 25% more than you think you'll need....you've been warned..... 8)

I like the wrapping method! I'll have to give that a shot sometime. What are those equations, Buckie? Did you cut and paste them from LaTeX?

Meant to ask..... What kind of bacon do you use?  When I,first started I would get thicker bacon, but learned the cheap thin stuff is better.

I have no idea where I got them.......someplace I was  noodling around for offbeat info in re: to trying to get the Large Hadron Collider people to insert a pork chop in the proton path & produce sub-atomic BBQ...... 8)

Thinner bacon, wraps better, cooks faster.....
I get 3 -5# flats at a time, for a decent price

If that's how you do your Turds, where the hell did I get the idea to put a Smokey in there?  :- :-[  I thought I had been emulating you all this time! >:(
