A tale of cooking on the 18
« on: September 02, 2017, 03:26:48 PM »
A couple of old friends invited me to a "smokefest" today. Basically bring your own grill and meat and everyone cooks something and drinks a few cold ones.  Simple enough. I was tasked with poultry. I bought a large package of wings from Costco and fired up the 18. Great travel size by the way. I fired up 3/4 of a chimney of kcomp and spread even. Half vent on bottom full vent top. Turned occasionally and took about an hour and a half. I'd guess 50+ wings on an 18. Worked beautifully. There was a pork butt on a otg, a prime rib on a modified chargriller barrel type, salmon on a Oklahoma joe offset, and brisket flat on a chargriller barrel. All turned out great. It was fun discussing all things BBQ. I think everyone was impressed with the quality and quantity of wings the 18 produced.  Perfect weather for grilling today. No pictures but thought I'd share the tale.

Sweet!  Good times,  good brews, good eats.  Wish I lived in your neighborhood.  50 wings on an 18 must have been a sight.

I did have a couple pics I forgot I took lol. None of me but a couple overall pictures of grills and others there. One picture shows a modified chargriller. It was the one that had a gas and a charcoal side. He said his wife caught the gas side on fire and destroyed. He removed it and installed a wood side table and installed on offset fire box on the charcoal side. Not a weber but pretty cool. Not very good pictures but you get the idea.

You can barely spot my 18 in last pic and if you look really close, you'll see someone else's otg.

Indiana!  Specifically brownsburg. Northwest side of Indianapolis. I'm on the south side so about a 30 minute drive from my house.
